I've been carrying my kayak in the bed for a while now and have to come up with something better, now that my wife has one too.
I have a 2012 4 door with the long bed. I'very seen some that have two bars mounted on the cab, but the that loops sort of short to stabilize a 12 to 14 foot boat.
I have a locking "Rollingloc" bed cover, and am concerned that might be in the way of mounting a rear rack on the bed.
    Any options out there?

I have a camper shell with a rack on it that we use. You can also get a hitch mounted kayak support rack. Or you might find a set of bed bars that are tall enough to mount them above the height of the cab.

What you need is a truck bed extender from harbor fright that goes in your receiver hitch, and then one cross bar that goes on your cab with or without saddles.

I'm looking at the hitch mounted extender for the rear mount. Thanks for the idea!
I guess essential what I need now is a single roof mounted bar.
I'Lloyd check Yakima & Thule, but i'Lloyd bet it will be expensive.
Any other options for the front mount?

If you think you only need it sparingly, take a look at the inflatable roof rack. You can do a search for inflatable roof rack. Malone inflatable roof rack is one of the name brands. They are inexpensive compared to regular racks and since you only need one, the other would be a backup spare. Easy on and easy off.

The oem roof rack bars store lengthwise to reduce noise and wind resistance at higher speeds, and can be had for less than $250 new. I use those alone to mount my boats for short trips, and for longer trips, the Thule Goal Post in back, and a simple wood board across the stowed oem rack bars do the job.
