After years of ownership, I found my center console always took up a lot of space, and never had more than forgotten junk items in it. So I took it out. Whipped up a simple board to bolt in the stock holes and tucked a new floor mat around it. Other than grabbing it when I make a sharp right turn, I prefer it. Truck is more spacious inside, can put anything there now; laptop backpack, wife's purse, cooler, etc right there at hand. It's not too pretty but very useful. Ran usb and audio very easily that can now reach anywhere in the truck, will add cupholder/s, and will figure out something to cover to the hole to right of shifter.

BUT, can anyone tell me what this white connector behind the shifter is for? I may tap it for other use and want to know what it's for.

Interesting idea! When I had my interior out of my truck for a week while the carpet dried, I also didn't have a center console in there. It was definitely more spacious. Do you have an outlet in the bed of the truck? On TRD's, that's where the inverter is.

No outlet, mine is base model with Convenience package. Like your quote desribes, I'm a minimalist. And cheap. I say my base model truck has the best option; an owner with several more thousand dollars in the bank.

No idea what the plug could be then. You should invest in a cheap multimeter and see if it's hot.

I'm not sure if it would be a direct bolt in, but you might be able to find the small center console out of a 5 lug, auto with a bench seat, then you have some cup holders and it would look more finished.

The main benefit it the space is now flexible. I can put literally anything there, not just what would fit in the tiny box of the huge console. Toolbox and growler carrier used to be tough to place in the cab, now they're perfectly held. I am going to test at some point, just not sure what I would put there if not USB, which is already done, so it's not a priority. Thinking about swapping in the shifter surround from a single cab or bench seat, but my cheapness will probably keep it as is. :)

If this is true, there's probably no power at the connector, because OP's base model doesn't have the dash switch.

My international came with a tool box center console. Strange in a Tacoma but I like the idea

I think I would want to do a little more wood working and cover up the entire exposed area that was covered by the console. I would be afraid something would fall into those areas not covered that would cause damage that would be costly to repair.

It's the inverter connector. It should be null. Only juice when you start engine on pin 9 (violet), everything else going to the connector needs a switch relay fuse, etc...

At least but shifter surround back on if you are just going to use a floor mat as a shelf.

    Good lord.

    A for idea.

    About an f - -- for execution.

Nope. It sticks back in midair and would break off. Keeping the original plastic for resale and would buy the single cab setup if I feel like it. It's an experiment, not supposed to be cute.

Perfect, Will test. Not sure what I'd ever put there but you have the answer I was looking for, Thanks.

The experiment is basically done, I'd like to keep it out. BUT yes, I have only started on the next part of putting "something" in there. The obvious is the console from the bench seat. Kinda like this but it seems like this shifter is more forward, presumably for the 4cyl?, and I think I have cables where these cupholders are, may not matter. Kinda busy to do the research, but checking posts and buy /sell /trade for a confirmed V6 auto bench console to look at. Maybe can freak out some stranger in town and ask to look at their single cab. :)
