I just spent an hour underneath the bed trying to figure this out.
How on earth did you guys take the Spare Tire Hoist off? Did you loosen the four bolts from the top (between the cross member and the bed)? That's a tight space and I couldn't get enough leverage to loosen any of the bolts. I noticed that @Crom had to deal with hot metal shavings. Did you grind the bolts off?
    Thanks again guys.

I just now finished moving mine to fit the 255/85r16 cooper st Maxx tire. The 2016 is different than the pictures from croms page. You need to remove the bolts from the top, then move the rear of the hoist to the bolts closest to the rear bumper and drill new holes for the other bolts to the hoist. In essence, you are moving the hoist rearward the amount of the bolt holes. I did this and the tire fit fine without hitting the rear diff when under compression.

Yes. Bolts come out from the top. Very tight working space!

Yes, I undid the 4 bolts on top. I interlocked my open end wrenches for a lot more leverage. Worked great, but that is not the "safe" way to use those tools.

    Stock. For now.
Read through this entire thread. that took a couple hours. Stoked on all the information. I am going to get a set of this size tire from pep boys. seems to be best bang for the buck.

    Thanks.
I had to pick up a 12 mm 6 point box wrench at Sears and a 12 mm flex head ratcheting wrench. Also used a short cheater bar.
    IMGP6267.jpg

Used a paper template to locate the holes. Decided to use two of the current holes and just drill two rear holes to minimize the pain and suffering.IMGP6274.jpg

@Crom was right- hot metal shavings from all the drilling was brutalIMGP6276.jpg

Done! Three hours over two days. I can sleep peacefully now that I know my rear diff doesn't smash into my spare tire!!!

What year of truck is that on and is that to clear the hitch?

    2005 DCSB.
Actually, this brought the tire rearward, closer to the hitch and further from the rear differential. If I didn't move this, then on full compression, my rear diff would hit the 33" spare tire.

    Great job Lloyd!

Very interesting...After having seen pics of your cross member (2005), mine (2009) and @crazy joker (2014). They are not all the same. For some reason, on my truck the relief hole in the center is much larger, making moving the elevator more of a chore. The 2005 and 2014 look the same.

Anyhow, good job, and pics!

Yeah, for some inexplicable reason, I have not taken a single picture of my truck for the first 12 years of owning her.
Nowadays, I seem to take a pic of everything I do to, or with this truck. LOL!

My frame was replaced last year under the Toyota rusty frame replacement campaign.. So likely it's a "2015" or so frame.
