Start at the ground and work up!!

Get the old gas out !!

You might want to pull the plugs and put your favorite penetrating spray in the cylinders for a few days

Don't check. Change. It's been sitting for 10 years, and who knows what state they were in before being parked?

OP, you say this is your first vehicle if I understand the title correctly. Hopefully you have someone with knowledge to look over your shoulder as you prep this vehicle for use.

If your description is accurate, I'd not even attempt to put a battery in it and start it, I'd flatbed it to where ever you can work on it. Clean out the fuel system, change the oil, put in a new battery and fresh gas and cross your fingers. But NOT drive it at that point, just validate the motor runs.

You could either be a very lucky fella with your find, or you could easily spend almost as much as the vehicle is worth refreshing it. Just depends on what you really have.

And as Wyoming09 suggests, a bit of lube in the cylinders to work on potentially seized rings is a good idea. Marvel Mystery Oil is a reasonable choice for that.

Glad I wasn't the only one that caught that.

Plus they were TJs. They didn't even have TJs in the early 90s.

Yep I know this. I just could've sworn they had a TJ for the new movie. The other guy proved me wrong.
