Seriously? Or is that a reflexive Cranial Restosis comment?

It's possible there's a flaky wiring problem in the MIL lamp circuit itself, though that would be extremely rare. In all likelihood it's just inaccurate reporting by the dealer, esp. since you are normally talking to the service writer instead of the actual technician. If there are indeed no codes stored in memory, ask them to check if there's freeze-frame data, which may give some clues.

I basically told the Service adviser he needs do whatever it is he does to find the issue he and the tech both saw the lights on, and there is no way that the codes go bye bye.

^If the light has extinguished and no longer comes on, there isn't much the dealer can do except giving it back to you to monitor.
For the short term, yes. If there's a misfire or rich condition, over time the cat could get poisoned.

Can you explain your reasoning for the "cheap eBay bumper to fix the issue"?

most likely you are in need of zero point calibration. Did you just have it in for alignment? Or hit a pot hole/something recently? Typically you wont see it pop up untill the next time you turn on car after something that will affect steering. I had it happen after I blew my alignment wheeling. Didnt see it untill the next morning when I went to turn on car

Edit: If a code reader cannot reset it, or doesnt read any codes, its a zero point calibration. You need to visit you dealer for that one.

    No you don't.

There's a DIY on this forum and it can be done at any alignment shop worth 2 cents.

Why did they charge you? When this happened to me they simply said, yep locking gas cap and sent me on my way, especially since your under warranty, shitty service department.

If you have the platinum warranty its the same like bumper to bumper and should have covered the diagnostics.

The cap that was on that they blame this is a after market locking gas cap but it is obvious that was not the issue since I put the original Toyota cap back on....and it is the Platinum warranty...

I asked the service guy on the phone for all the tech stream reports since you said there was no codes when you checked it but you are saying this was the issue. He said they don't have it and I said bullshit you need to find it since you told me that was the problem.

I'd be calling Toyota Customer care, even with the locking gas cap, they shouldn't have charged you to check for codes.
