Haha. Love it. St. Mere is a good one. Casa pulls right up, hop on and hop out in minutes.

Also, good dirt bike trails around there.

Former 37F. Airborne was mandatory. :)

Picked up my double stack in 97 (or thereabouts) out at East Range, Hawaii.

I was an E-5 at the time. Got my jump wings as an E-1

So I spent 5 hours on the phone the other day with a fellow paratrooper. I only saw him twice, 25 years ago.

It was my cherry jump. I hadn't jumped since Airborne school two years earlier.

Still on the ground they're talking about high winds. We chute up, load up, and head up. First sticks jumps. Plane comes around and we hook up. It's a no-go, winds over 20 knotts.

One of the soldiers who jumped was slammed hard into the ground. Knocked unconscious and drug across the DZ. Head injury, broke hip, shoulder, multiple arm fractures. Pathfinders had popped red smoke, the pilots ignored it and we went green.

Three month coma. I see him again a year later. He came to show us he's not dead. Still having trouble walking and talking. He had a long fight ahead of him.

Twenty five years pass. I tell his story every time I'm asked if jumping is dangerous, despite never actually meeting him in person, but I did see him exit as we were on the same plane.

I just came across him on FB. We exchange messages then he calls my cell. We talked for five hours. His injuries were extensive, permanent brain damage. Never met but the conversation picked up like we were best friends catching up on missed time.

    It truly is a brotherhood.

5 jump chump. Wish I popped my cherry, but all opportunities after school were cx'd (couldn't get airspace, busted brake line on landing to pick us up, lack of riggers, etc). Couldn't even get a UH-60. LOL

My knees and back thank me though.
