Trans fluid is not the same as engine oil. Trans fluid is in a sealed system with no practical way to get "consumed". Trans fluid also expands and contracts a lot more with temperature. By contrast engine oil can get consumed - slipping past the piston rings and burned in the combustion chamber. And some German cars like BMWs and Audis are notorious for burning oil - the mfrs even offer a trunk oil bottle holder as a genuine accessory so owners can top up when they get fuel.

You want facts?? Go visit the factory/assembly plants and testing grounds to see for yourself the meticulous process that goes into making these vehicles.
And thanks, but no thanks I don't need your credentials. If I need technical information I read the factory manuals and tsbs. I then check with the field techs and last I search the forums and check all that aligns with the credible information I have already received. Suggest you do the same. Your conspiracy theories make no sense at all. Why would a reputable automaker risk their entire multi billion dollar enterprise to save on a quart of ATF fluid that they pay penny's for because they buy in bulk and hedge against rising prices on the futures market??

AND here folks is a perfect example of someone with a hard-on and an axe to grind against Toyota.
For every unhappy customer there are hundreds, thousands of post by them. But for every happy, satisfied customer, maybe 1 in ten will write a post stating so.
    Me?
I don't post on here everyday, sometimes I have better things to do.
But I don't have an axe to grind either. However, I've got nothing better to do at times so I get on the trolls lolo!
    Stay safe
    Cheers!

An axe to grind? my truck is in the shop awaiting an entire rear diff replacement and a suspension squeak that toyota acknowledges they have absolutely no clue of how to fix. So if that's an axe to grind, sure. Just don't spout misinformation about transmissions.

When Toyota puts out a POS for me, I'll be walking with my $$. Plenty of good used alternatives out there friend.

I'm the one spouting misinformation on the the transmission??
Is your transmission fooked?? Kaput? Did it break on you and had to be replaced already? Was is directly attributable to 'low ATF??
Whose trolling the B/S on here??
Hope that helps, stay safe out there!
    Cheers!

Yeah truck barely has 13k miles on it. Definitely under warranty. I'd like them to buy me some Deavers to replace the shitty OEM leaf springs that they have no clue how to fix

My gal bought a brand new 4Runner a month before I bought my new Tacoma. Also one of my family needed a little 4x4 truck and just bought a 2016 Tacoma SR5 4x4 based on my referral so I'm responsible for about $100K in toyota purchases within the last year alone. I'm far from a Toyota hater but they need to make the things on these trucks right. Luckily the other tacoma has had no issues.

He (smitty) will find some other reason(s) to entertain us, trust me lolo!

I feel for you bud, you sound like you have a legit service issue. My comments were never directed at you per se, or even smitty, till he got involved, but to the trolls spreading fear rumors the transmission is low from the factory and is gonna fail on account of it.
I know the ATF fluid makers/sales ppl hate sealed trannys b/c the ATF sales take a plunge when ppl can’t add more ATF, and transmission shops loose business from leaking seals and foaming damage that can come from over filled transmissions.
I get that some stealerships are or can be total stupid turds, especially if they don’t or can’t put their finger on a issue they can make a buck or two off the customer or the factory warranty.
Your only options in that scenario are ltd.
My first choice would be to try different dealerships in or out of area in hope of finding an experience tech that knows what’s going on and can make a buck or two off the warranty.
Another alternative is to find a reputable independent and experienced transmission shop that can pin point the problem to the dealer so they can make that buck.
    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

No SIB on stuck-open injectors? Of course this is with direct injection, so the fuel keeps going even with the valves closed. Guess where the fuel gets burned...
