Looking for a bit of advice, rear diff gear oil mistake

    The only consequences of overfilling a diff is leaking axle seals. Way too much over thinking going on.

    I haven't checked the thread all day and found this dick tossing competition going on. Got the diff fixed, and its so smooth its ridiculous. Went back to the place that put oil in the truck for more info on the oil. It was 75W140, with a GL-5 additive. The manager wouldnt let me look at it but i saw the brand was "SolTech" A lawsuit isnt worth it, Im gonna write this off as an expensive lesson and make an effort to keep fluid changes documented and learn how to do them all myself. I have the resources I am just lazy. It cost me this time. Don't be like me kids.

    I cant say for sure, the dealership told me the trucks rear diff is extremely sensitive to additives in that portion of the truck. They said the weight of the oil isn't as big an issue as the unknown additives they used. I can review the paperwork for a better answer to your question ruggybuggy. All I know is the truck shifts, rides and sounds smooth as can be now.

    The 75W140 will be fine. I believe East Coast recommends it for the third members they set up. I personally have 75W110 in mine.

    A lot of the low weights you see are more where the manufacturer tries to improve mileage as much as possible. For instance, I know of a Subaru that is recommended to run a 0W-20 in the US. The manual from Ireland (I believe that was the location the thread had screenshots of) had a wide range of viscosities that could be used, like 10W40. A little bit of improvement here and there goes a long way across an entire vehicle line.
