Curious as to the cause and damage.

 

Joe did you check out that Scamp you mentioned?

 

I picked mine up on a Monday morning so my wife and i arrived in that area the Sunday before and grabbed a hotel room. When i arrived 1st thing Mon morning my casita was inside the shop where the smoke was coming out, 2 were inside for pick up. I'm wondering if buyers made the trip there to pick up tomorrow and now their camper may be damaged? At least nobody was hurt, that's really what matters.

 

I did not get up to Minnesota to check out the scamp after all. I am pursuing another option here, reason being because I don't have room to store the Scamp 19' after all. There will be a build tread coming up!

I am looking at purchasing a used Casita Spirit Deluxe 17'

I have a 2012 Tacoma TRD Sport with Tow package.

No experience towing.

Should I get airbags? Any recommendations on brands? Same question for anti sway and brake controllers.

Brake controller is a must. Your truck should be wired for a brake controller from toyota. I tow my 17ft Casita SD with a 1st Gen Tacoma which didn't come with a towing package so I had to install a frame hitch and my buddy wired up my brake controller for me. I don't have air bags but I do use a Curt sway bar, it came with my Casita when I bought it new.

 

I tow a 17SD with my '15 TRD Sport. I use an EAZ-LIFT WDH with 600lb spring bars and a Curt sway bar. The truck does a great job pulling, I have to look in the mirror to tell if it's still there.

 

Just installed a frame hitch on my casita & a spare tire carrier. I wanted to relocate the spare so it's off of the fiberglass. Also now I can transport my bikes back there which will give me more room in the bed of my truck. I cut down the OE spare tire carrier and I installed a stainless acorn nut to cover the exposed threads.

 

Looks good. How hard was the hitch to install?

 

Easy. Just had to drill some holes.

 

Just got a new (to me) 2013 DCLB Sport 4x4. Hoping it handles my Casita pretty well. I love my Casita though. My gen 1 towed it pretty good except on the ascents.

 

had a 2011 and it towed it like a champ. great little trailers for that truck.
