I have been searching the forums for the 2nd gen locker anytime mod and I see that all you need to do is wire the grey ecu wire to ground.

Has anyone tried this with the 3rd gen? I would like to use the locker like all my cool friends with 2 wheel drive ORs

I searched this forum. Where are they? There were a few mentions of asking about it in old threads but that was all I found in the third gen section

I'm curious why someone like you, who obviously spends more time on here than others, would waste time / keystrokes being a dick to the guy asking rather than just replying with a link to the answer.

I've looked at the schematics and I don't think there is going to be any easy way to engage the locker without tripping out the ABS unit and Transfer case controller. The locker runs through both

I think it really depends what's required by the 4WD ECU.
I believe that mod only fools it into thinking it's in 4lo.
As you can see, there's a lot going on in the CAN lines.

You could provide power and ground to the coil and hope that backfeeding the module doesn't cause issues

I suppose you could add diodes between the actuator and the module to keep from back feeding. Hmm, now I'm getting ideas. Lol

    I don't think so.
    Besides, I believe it's a violet wire? Terminal 13(Connector F13) from the 4WD ECU.

Someone is just going to have to try some of the suggestions and see if it works. We might bet lucky, but the more CAN gets integrated, the harder it is to make a simple "X-wire hack". But, we could get lucky.

The next option is a custom module that snags the CAN communication and modifies it to suit the modder's nefarious needs. Sounds crazy, but there are products that do exactly that for many cars. I had a small part in (assisting/promoting) development of a unit to modify the way the retractable hardtop works on the 3rd gen Miata. The company that builds it also makes modules (same module, different firmware and wiring harness) for many other vehicles. Mods4Cars.com

Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Someone needs to break out the cutters, a meter, and some big brass balls and give it a shot. For the record, that is unlikely to be me anytime soon, since I don't have much use for locked 2WD (though I wouldn't say No to the option)

    Disregard previous post; my bad.

Yellow wire, Terminal 3, Connector F13 from 4WD ECU.

A Controller Area Network (CAN bus) is a vehicle bus standard designed to allow microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other in applications without a host computer. It is a message-based protocol, designed originally for multiplex electrical wiring within automobiles, but is also used in many other contexts. [From Wikipedia]

On more sophisticated cars, it goes everywhere and does almost everything. Instead of a switch controlling a motor to move your window up and down (even via a relay), on heavily CAN integrated cars the switch sends a message on the CAN bus that tells another control box on the bus that it's time to turn on the motor. The nice part about that kind of setup is that you can very easily hack all kinds of items on your car once you get over the hump of getting on the bus and having your way with it (like the Mods4Cars guys). On high end cars with a lot of features, there's separate networks for the drivetrain and convenience items.
