Does anyone know of a vertical spare tire mount that you can mount to the bedrail? I carry an extra spare on long wheeling trips and just a spare in the bed when I plan on wheeling a little harder. I searched and found that metalmiller used to make them. If you've got one and want to sell pm me. Thanks!

I store my winch and other gear in a husky box in the bed and I want to minimalize the room the spare takes up, otherwise I'd go with a different style.

The problem with your plan is the side mount places a lot of stress on the rail which causes the bed side to flex and it will crack the bed side panel...

    Use with caution.

You could make your own. Go buy a long carriage bolt. I forget the size head, but searching on here will tell you what is needed. Slide the bolt into the bed track to where you want it, and slide your tire into the bed and onto the bolt. Tighten a nut down on the bolt and that will hold it in place to the bed rail.

yeah... looks like I'll have to make one when I get some time. I'll probably build some sort of base so that the tire's weight sits on the bed floor and use a bolt attached to some sort of bracket on the bed rail.

Make a bracket that bolts into the rails and the bottom of the bed. You'll be less likely to ruin the bed sides that way. If you found the Metalmiller bracket, then you must have read about the problems.

As long as you use some backing plates you should be fine. For the other aforementioned reasons I just throw the tire in the bed and ratchet it in via some l-track. That's a good bit of weight to just be sitting on a single bolt in the rail.
