Hello TW... been lurking here for a few months as I researched my new truck. You all played a huge part in my decision to not only buy a Gen3 but what exact model and features to get/avoid.

Ok well I picked her up yesterday and already can't stop staring at it out the window at work.

So now that I am an owner, Hello from Sunny East County San Diego!

Now on to my question. I have read the dreaded Tail Gate theft threads that seem to be a plague on Tacoma Owners of all Gen's and years. What I wanted to know is if anyone knows how effective the Toyota Tailgate Lock is in preventing the theft? Should I still look into the hose clamps if I ALWAYS lock the tailgate? I also have the tri fold tonneau cover. I did use the search function but didn't see this specifically addressed.

    Thank you for your time.

Congrats on your truck. I Used the simple cable clamp method with a key, which will slow a determined thief down but there is a better solution that will rise your cost from $6 to about $36....do a search if you do not get some links to follow from fellow TW members and you will find them.

Thank You! That is what I was missing from the other threads I read. I was thinking that if you kept the tail gate locked it would be no issue or at least less of one. I do like the simple hose clamp with the Hex Key as a very economical extra step.

    Regards,

Power tailgate lock is the way to go. No more messing with the key or trying to remember if you locked it or not.

30-45 minutes to install if you take your time and drink a couple beers.
