I've been searching because I thought I've read about someone else having a similar problem but can't find any info.

Here's the story I've been given. I left my truck at my parent's house while in on vacation. They did chauffeur me to the airport and I've done this before with other cars, no problems, fully expect them to drive it a bit.

Get a message that my truck wouldn't drive over 40mph on Monday, then it wouldn't start at all on Wednesday. They had it towed to the dealership and have been told it's a bad direct injection system. They've contacted "Toyota of California all day" as they put it but won't have any answers back until Monday.

Any thoughts or ideas? I drove this brand new truck off the lot in February & it has just over 4000 miles when I left it.

Sounds like it's in limp mode for some reason. Others who have had their truck go into limp had a crankshaft position sensor failure. Then there was one that had to have her engine rebuilt after going into limp mode

Hopefully it's just a one-time fluke. Don't let it rattle your confidence in your truck. One bad wire or one bad sensor is all it takes. They'll get it fixed

Agree 100%. My first response was to say something like, "Piece of crap 3rd Gen, blah, blah, blah." But this kind of thing can happen to anyone. I'm in the camp that believes stuff happens, and what will keep me a loyal customer is how the issues are death with and handled. I had some significant issues with my 3rd Gen and lost faith in the brand not because of the issues, but how they were at first blown off and ignored by both the dealership and Toyota corporate. Now I'm seeing people with the same/similar issues getting extended warranties for free which makes me think I should call Toyota and make a stink again.

Your poor Tacoma has gone limp. Couple truck sized viagra should fix it. Don't sweat it man. Happens to the best of 'em.
Seriously. One loose connector can do this. Don't let it shake your confidence. It'll be Up soon.

Bad crank sensor. Dealership sorted it out & its parked back where I left it before leaving.

My confidence in the truck isn't shaken a bit & the dealership took care of everything. Now to make sure my parents stop wheeling my truck while I'm gone & blaming the vehicle for breaking down!
