Everything went well but when I tree getting the damn oil filter off it wouldn't come off. I then tried the screw driver and hammer didn't work. I now have to get it towed. Why do they put the oil filters on so hard there is no way a normal human could do it without a shop.

Even with a screwdriver it wouldnt budge? Who last did the oil change for you? Maybe try something a bit longer than the screwdriver to get better leverage.

the filter doesn't even need to go on that tight, the seal just needs to seat properly and it may not if it's not lubricated. Just can't imagine why any shop would over tighten like that, they should know better.

Because I did the screw driver method the hole was leaking all of the oil and it would have ruined the engine or done alot of damage to it if I had driven it to a shop. To live another day I guess I learned that my filter oil has never been changed or the previous mechanic put that thing on so hard hulk couldn't get it off. Shouldn't have even tried the screw driver method you can't drive it if you do that and can't get it off. Fml I got yelled at for hours :( rips haha atleast my truck is sAFE and getting the damn fker off. I keep it as a prize.

The worst thing I did was trying the screw driver method before checking I Jr was a oem filter. Those things won't come off no matter what you put aganist them. Decided to call it quits and take my loses, next time I guess I'll be ready and if I can't manage to get the filter off which should be a new one from napa that shouldn't be impossible, then I won't poke a hole in it and be stuck if I can't get it off. I will be investing in a oil filter wrench.

Channel lock works pretty good too. The closer to the base of the filter the less it will twist like a soda can .

No link. Bought it at advance or autozone I think it's 68mm part number is AMPRO T70406 . I would buy a second filter take it with you if you go to one of those stores. Just to check.

That was the feeling I had when my truck was new and did the first oil change myself. I think for warranty purposes the factory snugs them extra tight. Luckily my neighbor had a band wrench and with a lot of muscle, it came off. Makes me wonder if it's worth bring it to the dealer for the first oil/filter change.

This x1000. I use the shittier Craftsman version but it's gotten me out of a lot of pain in the ass filters that some grease monkey strap wrenched on.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
$20???? Those things should be less than $10. Pretty sure I just grabbed a CTA brand all metal one at my local farm supply store for less than $5. They work great until you run into an oddball filter like a Motorcraft where they put a bagillion ridges around the edge instead of 14 flutes. Or Fram where they put rubber texture over the metal so it is too big to fit the filter cap that should fit.
