From what I hear, the spring that pushes the motor lever up fails in those power pop and locks. Good thing is m it prevents the tailgate from locking, not unlocking, so opening the tailgate wouldn't be a problem in that situation.

I'm contemplating going back to the oem handle and getting cable locks attached between the tailgate and the bed on both corners, so if anyone tried to steal the tailgate, they'd have to defeat the hose clamp I already have on, zip ties I have on underneath it, then 2 cable locks. I also have an alarm for my tailgate so it would go off if someone opened it without disarming with the remote. So they'd have to defeat all this things while the alarm was going off in their ear. Sure it can be done but it would delay them.

Whose to say jamming a screw driver into the pop and lock and turning would quicker or not considering how cheaply it's made.

If you have to push in on your tailgate to open it (with Pop n lock and OE), you can adjust the "strikers" (?????) to decrease the tailgate pressure on the "rubber" bumper (I can open my tailgate with one finger) You only need enough pressure on the rubber bumper to keep tailgate from rattling. It takes a little finesse to get the adjustment "just" right if you are OCD. I have seen Tacoma tailgates with the tell tale, subtle, dents along the upper edge of the tailgate, from having to "slam" them to fully close them.

Been having issues lately with mine unlocking. Lube is your friend. Specifically the bar which slides to actuate the lock. Everything else has factory grease on it, except the sliding bar.
