ive been lurking for some time reading posts here and thought it was about damn time I join now that I own one. My situation is unique to say the least. I bought a new Ford super crew 2.7 sport in April and came from a Mazda 6. The transition was huge. The Ford felt like I was sitting on a couch on wheels, but pain in the butt to park and maneuver in city. I always wanted a Taco, but allowed others around me convince me that with me being 6'2, I need a "real truck". I convinced myself the Taco was too small and Ford gave me good rebate money to buy, so I did. In two months I was already having issues, shuttering, stalling at lights, etc... . Well, I somehow convinced my wife to let me get rid of the ford and get a new Taco. I stayed at stealership until 11 last day of month. Found a Beautiful magnetic SR5 4x4 DCSB with 3" lift, pro comp wheels and bfg ko2 tires and predator step rails.

The front bumper was off because the service guy hit it like a jack. Long story short, I got over 7k off price after haggling for hours and an additional 2k more trade than they originally wouldn't budge from. New bumper looks perfect, fought hard to get them to throw tint in. The tint on truck isn't as dark as I want. They said I can go where I want and they will reimburse me $200, I fought hard telling them I'm getting ceramic and got $300.

Some of my friends think I'm crazy for getting rid of ford. Now I'm wondering if I am too after reading so much about 2016 Taco's. Only thing I miss so far is leg room I had in Ford and power. But I have many reasons why I love this truck, just brought it home today. Also has bed cover. My ford was not 4x4 either. Ford has more bells and whistles, but I feel like I made right decision long term, sure hope so!

I'll add pics later this weekend.

Welcome to TW. You're a hell of a negotiator for getting them to toss in so much extra. I hope the new taco will serve you better than the ford.

I suggest checking out this link. A big thing I push on new members with new tacos is getting that transmission fluid manually checked and filled. Too many reports of tranny issues because of low fluid. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tips-and-tricks-on-the-2016-tacoma.411911/

Thank you. Yea, I did read a lot of this. And yes, I asked them to check it before I picked up truck and response was our service guys check all new vehicles for everything, I did see ATM checked on box in glove compartment along with crapload of other items. Sure hope I made right decision. I want to love this truck.

I know it seems that a lot of 2016s have problems but most of them don't. Problems are just amplified because of the forums. Best wishes with the new vehicle man.

Surprised also, considering how easily sold the Tacomas are. I would think the dealer would have told you to hit the road, knowing that another customer would soon appear.

I'm 6'3" and I find there's more then enough room in my 2015. Just think about all those extra bells and whistles the Ford had and how much it would cost you when they break and that's not if they break it's a Ford it's gonna break.

You wont regret the decision when it comes time to get something new and you realize how awesome the resale is on these things. I love my Tacoma, I have no problems with it. Don't let the stories freak you out, I think most of the problems that people have had here have been addressed. Enjoy your new truck!

I agree, but to be fair I was working with same guy before I bought my ford and he probably spent no telling how many hours with me total. Let's be honest, they are still making money on back end of this deal. I saw on screen in finance that dealership actually lost $2400 on truck sale itself. They mark up the 4 wheel parts 3" lift, tires, wheels combo like 7k, so I essentially got it all taken off, which from my understanding is unheard of for Tacomas. I know I have plenty of room, just an adjustment when coming from F-150 crew cab. My wife loves it. My sales guy just got promoted to Internet manager the day we closed the deal, not sure that had anything to do?

Thank you. Yea, the resale was part of my overall decision making. As far as stories freaking me out, I initially bought platinum warranty for $1,113 for 84 months/75k, but cancelled yesterday because my credit union is offering me 10 years/125k bumper to bumper, which Volvo and Mazda both use, so it's legit, just some crappy fly by night deal. I will be looking at all small print before purchasing though. I'm refinancing through credit union for 1.9 for 72 months, all fees waived. So I can throw it in then if I choose. I tried to get Toyota to add more miles to warranty, but they simply wouldn't budge. He showed me screen with there cost and said they have to make minimum $200 on any warranties. He was good guy and didn't get upset at all when I cancelled. I did spend $700 on maintenance plan that covers all maintenance for 72 months/85k. I know with just wife having Toyota car maintenance can add up. I'm not a DIY guy unfortunately, so probably worth it for me.

Congrats on your new Tacoma and welcome!

I'm 6'6". For us taller guys, I'd recommend a rear view mirror riser bracket.

Thanks guys, been meaning to join this site for a while but didn't want to join club until I actually
owned a taco. My ford's name was Bo, so my 5 year old daughter named him Bo the Taco. I just mowed the lawn and couldn't stop standing there staring at it. I've wanted one since high school and I'm in my mid thirties and now I can finally afford one without it hurting, lol. My neighbor with Ford thinks I'm nuts.

'Them' who? Salesman? Don't believe it. If they did, it would be very very rare. The trans fluid check is a bit time consuming and complicated, and the 'prep' guys are on the bottom of the food chain. So...........

Not to panic though. just be aware of behaviors that indicate a low fluid issue and report immediately if they pop up. And at your first service, politely ask the writer to include a fluid level check for you. Hopefully your's will either not be a problem, or it will be remedied quickly.

You betcha. Regardless of how hard they cried about your arm twisting.

Check online prices for the components that are on your truck. Consider they buy the same parts for less. And they have the old parts in hand for other uses, including brand new wheels and tires. Anyway, you'll be stunned at the markup on that stuff.

They do it for a couple reasons.

People who aren't cash buyers often can't turn around and buy those bits, so they get them in the price and financed. Often financed by Toyota. Win for dealer and Toyota.

The crazy mark up. And they promote 'this stuff is warrantied by Toyota' (it's not, any warranty is dealer) Win for dealer.

So if you got the price down to something around what a normal purchase for that truck would have been, you did well, because I assume you like the things they've added on.

Good call on the window tint! Find a quality shop that provides a lifetime warranty on the tint and it's installation............

Hope you enjoy your ride for years to come!

That's funny, I was in the same boat. Wanted one since high school but couldn't afford one until now. All I want to do on my weekends is go drive it somewhere. haha.

I've been wheeling with a few guys from this forum with 2016's and they absolutely love their trucks, no issues at all. That's not to say that some people aren't having issues, but the whole thing gets amplified x10 online because that's the nature of online forums; people mostly post questions related to problems and complaints they're having, not the other way around. If you go out and talk to most 2016 Tacoma owners in real life, I'm sure you'll find that almost all of them are very happy. No manufacturer is perfect and there's bound to be issues with every automaker here and there.

Only thing I would be sure to get checked out is the trans fluid if you have an automatic.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .

I think you will like your Tacoma. I have had a bunch of Toyota trucks in all their categories since the early 1980's.

Never had a Toyota truck that I had to get rid of because of a problem ... can't say that about Chevy & Ford, never had a Dodge or RAM. I really like the 5.0, if a Ford was on my "buy list" today.

FWIW, I don't like a small engine (that has to really spin up) in a big truck ... I don't think they will last long term like their past engines. (maybe just me ).

Personally, I think all the manufacturers make a good truck, but the Toyota seems a little higher in Q/C to me & feels better to drive.

I have a 2016 and had a few small issues that seem OK now. This truck drives differently than past Toyotas.

With that said, it does seem like a few people have other issues more serious than mine were.

OP, enjoy & good luck with your new ride.
    .

Thank you all. I figured I would get more replies when I stated getting rid of new Ford? Lol, guess not. I bet if this thread was not in new members forum it would. No?
