So every time I've taken my fitbit wheeling, my step count is outrageous. There is no way I walked 12,000 steps today. I think it picks up the bounces as steps- and then counts elevation gained as floors climbed.

When I ride my motorcycle and keep my fitbit on, the same thing happens. Get like 15k steps from a 20 mile ride.

Fitbits, and all other motion based step counters, are pretty worthless. As you have demonstrated.

On the other side of silly, I can wear one kayaking and it doesn't even know I'm paddling my arms off. Maybe I'm too smooth? :anonymous:

Yeah, I wouldn't have one but my company gives them to us.

I quit wearing mine bc it was so pointless. Wouldn't register a 60-90 minute gym workout but sitting at my desk typing would blow it off the charts...

Also, when I would mow my grass it would put itself to sleep and wake itself back up constantly until it had a dead battery. I am assuming because of the vibrations through the handle. Dumb. Got it for my wife for her birthday 2 years ago. She wore it almost a year and then I gave it a shot but couldn't deal with it for more than a month.

I have the pedometer style one and it is pretty good about not adding too much extra. Unless I'm off pavement it wont pick up bumps.

If you have an iPhone there's an app called Drivebit that will fix the motorcycle/atv issue with Fitbit. You just have to remember to hit Start and Stop in the app but it will calculate and subtract your step count. I use it and it's pretty accurate, if anything it seems like it overcompensated and actually gives a lower count than what I should have.
