hey guys. I recently got sandblasted and have little pits all over my formerly pristine windshield. It's tolerable, I guess, but I'd sure like to replace it. My question is this-- would a replacement windshield be sealed up as well as the factory glass? I really hate to break that "factory seal". Is this anything to warrant concern?

Or Is factory glass higher quality all around that I'm really better off just living with the pits?

Just wondering which way to go here, as it's only a year old truck.

I would leave well enough alone. I would be more worried about getting a hack installer. I had a butcher replace my last windshield. Hacked up my A-pillar molding, and broke a cowl, and just put it back as is, hoping I wouldn't notice. It almost flew off my truck the next day (had to pull over and try to secure it, before I lost it). Not mention getting grease all over the light grey carpet that I managed to keep clean for 10 years prior.

Someone will inevitably fling a rock up, and take it out for you. If it were me, I would wait for that.

Factory GLASS is definitely higher quality than you'll find from any aftermarket company. The factory SEAL is terrible, the source of the windshield buzzing TSB, and is generally fixed after windshield replacement because Safelite and other companies use more sealant.

OP, I had a windshield on a Ridgeline replaced by Safelite and it was as good as factory.

I had the same concerns that you have on " factory seal" but they did a great job.

Lucky here to have a good tech at a good shop to do the work.

Just research the glass places in your area, even talk to some trusted collision shops in your area and see who they prefer, then hang around while they do it so you can verify the quaility when there finished. As a fleet mechanic I've had alot of windshields replaced most turn out great but there have been a few hack jobs.

No different than anything else. Quality of the product and competence of the installer.

OE grade glass, skilled installer, you'll never know the work was done (problem wise).

But a swap is not a cheap proposition. Personally I'd wait till it was chipped/cracked enough to qualify for an insurance claim. Some states require carriers to do the work with no deductible.
