Okay I am really confused why a Toyota wheel would be so different in cost at two different place.

I called a local dealership in Denver and they have it for $378/wheel

Is one wheel better over the other or how they are made?

 

You are asking the wrong place. Take that web site into the dealer, with that part number and ask them.

When I was seeking a color matched grill I brought in a screen shot of Camelback's (AZ Toyota Dealer) Price in shopping cart, guy behind counter said their selling at loss (with some dis-belief reaction and turning to customer beside me) and I walked away and got it from Camelback with free shipping.

Some dealerships see an opportunity to over price customer again or you know, actually sell stuff.

 

And some dealerships can change the price depending on who is standing in front of them. I've called/walked into and had someone else walk into the same dealer and got three prices for the exact same part over the course of a few days.

 

I might be in for that! Any idea on where you would want to wheel/shoot?

Exact same wheel...different pricing scheme. i have found toyota dealers have 3 prices....inflated price (greater than list price), list price and discounted price. A lot of what you see on the internet, they show the list price and then a discount that ranges anywhere from 10% to 25% off the list price.

Cant tell you how many times i have gone into the Go Toyota/Autonation Toyota on Arapahoe Rd and they give me prices that are 50% above the list price that I can find all over the internet. Got the same bullshit story that they must be selling below cost. At one time, Stevinson Toyota East had an internet parts business selling discount OEM Toyota parts to compete with the other dealers. Found the price by luck on the internet, looked up the address and figured out it was Stevinson East....showed up at parts counter and asked if they would honor their internet parts business pricing. They agreed to do it for the FJ Cruiser TRD wheel.

Now, I cant find whatever name they were operating their internet discount OEM parts business to be able to find their discounted price.

But.....just google the part number "

PTR20-35110-BK" and see all the ones that you get. For example, Olathe Toyota is selling that wheel for $161.25 plus shipping an no tax. Camelback Toyota out of Phoenix has good discount parts business, Sparks Toyota in SC, TRDParts4U in Dallas. Some of these folks also offer additional promo codes to forum members (usually 5-10%). You will note that all the discount OEM toyota parts houses (basically dealers running internet businesses) are showing a list price of $215.00 for that wheel. So that dealer that is giving you the $378 price is giving you an inflated price that 76% higher than a published Toyota list price that Toyota dealers all across the country are using as the baseline for measuring against their discounted price. Should tell you everything you need to know about that dealer.

Best I have ever gotten from Autonation Toyota (Arapahoe & Havana) is that they reluctantly agreed to sell me some suspension bolts for dealer list like they were doing me some HUGE favor and I was a special customer. Unless I gotta have it today and they can get it the same day, i have given up completely on local dealers for OEM parts. Hell just order it online and do a 2 day Fedex....will be cheaper and faster than local since they rarely have them in stock and it can take a day or two to get it from part distribution warehouse and you will have to pay tax if bought locally and you have to take the time to go there and order in person and pick it up in person.

The internet and Fedex/UPS shipping has changed the entire landscape....and any dinosaurs that show up at the dealer get the MSRP+++ special pricing.

 

Every time I've dealt with Stevinson East they've price-matched. I will warn you that I've never bought wheels.

Any one here, LEOs especially, know anything about tasers?

My GF commutes on the 16th St Mall daily and it's getting bad. One of her coworkers told her to get a C&C permit but I'd rather her take baby steps. So I'm looking at tasers for her.

I don't know anything about them or where to even purchase them. So I'm hoping I can get some useful education starting here.

Baby steps are good. I would assume that gun stores will carry them. As far as I was told by someone else, the Taser brand ones that have cartridges, if you were to use it (and file a police report) they will replace the cartridges for free. That may have been something that they did as a promotion though not sure if that is still going on.

Stun gun is the handheld one that you have to push against the person, and WHILE ITS MAKING CONTACT, it should incapacitate them. But as soon or very shortly after you stop making contact, they are back up (and pissed off).

Taser that shoots the probes will deliver the shock to them while you are able to create distance.

Both of those rely on good contact. Heavy jackets or even baggy clothes can stop the stun gun probes or the taser probes from contacting the skin (or make an intermittent contact). The larger spread of the probes in areas of heavier muscle mass will give a better effect. But, using the taser with the shooting probes is something that you want to practice with as well, since you have to aim for center of mass and hit with both probes. Hit them with one, and its not going to do anything.

So when they make good contact, they work well, its just making contact that you have to make sure of. This is why tasers are an extra tool in the toolbox, and not an answer for stopping someone with a gun or knife; unless you have no other options or you have someone else with lethal coverage if the taser does not work.

That being said, I dont watch the news, but it seems like the 16th street mall must be getting bad since I have heard a lot about it, and I dont spend much time downtown at all.

And the best taser would be the shotgun, which shoots out the cartridges that stick in them and provide a 25 second ride free of charge.

Seems like a taser and a stun gun are both pretty tricky to use. Anything else you (or anyone) suggest?

It just sucks because she's a petite woman that has to deal with assholes.

 

They can be better than nothing, but I would suggest a basic good self defense course as a better option. Small might make her look like an easier target, but she can easily use their body weight/momentum to take someone down and create distance. I have no idea of any good courses in the area, others might. But even just having the awareness, staying off the cell phone, taking out the earphones and paying attention to your surroundings goes a long way in preventing something from happening.

You can have the best taser/stun gun on the market, but if they sneak up on you and you can't get to it, its useless. And if you do get it, and use it wrong, or they get it away from you and then use it on you...even worse.

Again, works well when applied properly. Shoot them with it at close range or wind blowing towards you, and good chance you'll be feeling the effects as well; hopefully you trained properly and tested it on yourself so you know how to fight through it.

Cannot go wrong with defensive training.

Not trying to discount any of the options, just making sure that you (not you in particular, just anyone following along) realize that nothing is perfect, and to not rely on anything as a "for sure" solution. Even a gun can jam when you need it. And that's why you practice drills with it so you dont freeze up that one time you need it right then.

 

I have no idea what that means.
