Simple question here. Will putting a set of 2016 struts on a 2nd gen truck result in a 1" lift?

    Shocks/struts just dampen.

It's either the coils that would give you more height, or the front end in the new truck may be a bit lighter, or the fender lines may be higher.

If the strut body it longer it would result in a lift. Your right that the new truck has a different fender shape and someone could be fooled into thinking the new truck sits higher when measuring at that point.

Can't give you an answer, but wouldn't you be getting more for your money if you bought aftermarket struts (or coils)?

The dealers tend to overprice their parts. Not that they are cheap, but you would definetely get more for your money if you went aftermarket.

I don't think it is. I believe all of the suspension parts are the same size.

Bump. If someone knows it the 16 strut will give a 1" lift on the end gen I'd appreciate it.

Well I ended up buying the '16 struts and once I get them instaled I'll post the results so everyone will know. There are quite a few 16 suspension parts available on TW from guys going to the bigger lifts and this maybe a good upgrade for someone with a 2nd gen truck just looking for new struts and a slight lift/level kit.

This will be interesting. I know the upper and lower control arms are the same part numbers for gen 2 & 3. I figured the additional "lift" was in the body. We'll know once you have these installed.

its not the strut that is different on the 3rd gen to get the 1in more of ride height. its the stock springs of the 3rd gen that are longer / stiffer (one of the two maybe both) to get the extra lift.

UCA is interchangeable between 3rd n 2nd gen. LCA IS NOT, as the LCA of the 3rd gen has the same larger diameter rear mount as the latest 4 runner / last of the FJ's. That stated all major demensions are the same (length of arms, geometry etc).

TLDR: the strut will not get you the lift off a 3rd gen, its the spring that will.

You may be onto something. I did notice the the 3rd gen spring I bought has 10 coils and my 2nd gen has 9.

So I got the 2016 struts with coil and rear shocks done over the weekend. I was in a rush so I forgot to take measurements of before and after but I estimate the lift at around an inch. They install just the same as the old ones. I did notice the overall length was a touch longer. When I was in the shop I parked it next to a new 2016 which has the same struts/coils and height is almost identical.

Truck now almost sits level with about a 1.5" difference between front and back.

Nope sits 1" higher than before. The 2nd gen sit lower in the front than the 3rd gens. All I wanted was to lift the front a touch an the '16 struts/coils achieve that.

I thought factory rake was 1.5" - which sounds like where you're at.

Not sure on the spec. The new Tacomas have less rake than the gen 2. The new shocks are a longer and use a different coil. When I'm at work I'll measure a few gen 2 and confirm.

I measured the rake on a few gen 2's at work. A 2013 had a 2.25" rake and a 2007 had around a 3" rake. I remeasure mine on level ground and mine is around 1.25" rake with the 2016 struts/coils.

Any noticeable difference in ride feel with the new coils? I wouldn't mind relacing my fronts with these and throwing an AAl on.

I like it. Sort of reminds me of the 3rd gen 4Runner "Highlander" edition suspension swap. Mild, OEM, relatively cheap.

Just keep throwin' money at it.
    I gained 1.3" swapping a 2016 coil/shock with 8k mi onto my 2011 with 72k mi. Best $100 lift I've done.

I knew someone else must have done the swap. I couldn't have been the only one. How did you find the ride?
