This is encouraging to see everyone move away from CB. Thanks to @jAndyMendo for letting folks borrow radios so they can see and hear the difference. I can't wait to ditch the CB and install a mobile unit in its place.

Any of those Baofengs will work with the nagoya antenna upgrade. I also did the extended battery on my yellow ones since they are loaners and people leave them on. If you get one of the newer Baofengs, just make sure both channels are the same so you don't have to worry about the a/b ptt button. Since you will use FRS/GMRS or 2 meter ham, you can pretty much buy any baofeng and you are fine, no need for a bunch of features. My yellow ones were tri power and were running on high, but I am not sure if that is needed for that 2 mile distance or not. I would go with the UV-5R for $26 and then the antenna and maybe a extended battery.

@jAndyMendo how did the truck handle without the swaybar? You're the only one as top heavy as me and we have the same springs. King 700 coils and Dakars. Especially through the twisties near Copperopolis.
After seeing your link break, I'm debating taking it off. Still managed to stuff the crap out of my wheel on the trail, but the other side was probably in the air.

I took it slow descending 4, and take my time getting on/off the freeway now. Going to Blake and back was a lot easier without the sway, even though I took some door damage since a tire just started climbing a rock it didnt grip the day before with the same maneuver. I am happy it is off since I know it will break though, I just have to tone it down in the paved hills, but you end up behind someone slow at some point anyway.

After driving those twisties with my 2 Scouts, the Tacoma feels like a sportscar. Got stuck behind two trucks with horse trailers though.

Taking it off this week for testing before the trip this weekend.

Yea man. I'm on the HAM train too. Hopefully more people are as well. But I'll be keeping the CB as well. It'll be good to have both

It has an optional 8-watt capability, and computer connector.

I just ordered it, along with the 12-volt adapter.

I forgot I bought this when I bought my boefang. I wonder if it'll work better running it through a full size antenna? image.jpg
