The probability IS pretty low Danny. Very, VERY LOW!!! As far as determining though, I've never "fox hunted" so I don't know how to answer this question? Either way, I'm NOT gonna risk my license getting pulled. I plan on eventually going maybe more license class to get better freq spectrum range! If you read the next post, you would see why it would be so beneficial in the end to just go ahead and get a license if anyone was to get a HAM HT!
Danny, I'm NOT the law and I'm NOT a narc, but in all honesty, it does bother me a small bit. Think about it like this, a stupida$$ example, I know, but you wouldn't want someone shi--ing in your shoes, truck, SUV, bedroom pillow, etc would you? Kindof the same thing when it comes to HAM operation as those frequencies are meant for certain purposes reasons!!! In a crisis situation, you definitely wouldn't want someone to flood the airwaves just because they have a HAM radio where emergency personnel would use repeaters and SIMPLEX at the same time!!! Also, they hold emergency practices from time-to-time using both repeater and SIMPLEX radio transmissions to practice crisis situations and they're usually held over the weekends. The point being, you never know when something is being used for practice of such things. Of course, you can make the arguement then that the frequencies that are being used are not HAM 2m band range! Yes, that would be correct, but now, you have to think about public service/communications such as Fire/Police!!! Police, nowadays, that I know of, are on a coded freq hopping spread spectrum type system, a.k.a. FHSS!!! But as for Fire, it can be both repeater and/or trunked systems as well as SIMPLEX and/or Conventional radio system usage!!!

Alot to take into consideration is what it comes down to!!!

Except then they decide to take it out on your paint job with their keys. I still want to see a car alarm that electrocutes car key'ers. I'd go pro that shit.

Well obviously your not keeping it stock since you kept it under the radar until now about having a toytec set up in your garage!Just get the muscle car that you want and go all out on your PreCummer for your wheelin vehicle for whenever you want to use it!:notsure:

Quit using college as an excuse because the more you talk about upgrading your rig and doing so you won't graduate from college school!:D

So how hard is it exactly to get a basic HAM license so I can be legal with my handheld?

I don't have one. :) Just give it a good running start, haha.

Using a more angled approach up those steps would probably make it easier; there're a lot of border patrol and/or rangers in the area so you don't have to worry about being kidnapped. :)

I had a custom alarm similar to that back in the late 80's when Volkswagen Bugs were real popular and there were attempts at my 1966 Bug being stolen!Don't know exactly to this day how my dad at the time and co worker buddies of his developed it but two thieves were caught because of the setup! My dad was even questioned and almost fined by the police for developing the set up!Sometimes that's when you say "fuck the police"!

Yeah, to a very large degree, I agree with you. BUT, it is the "off language" that has plagued CB that gets me going!!! I was talking to @bustabenl on the 2m Keller Peak Repeater and some F'N loser was constantly disrupting our conversation. I know and realize that that is going to happen, but with more and more of the HAM radios being used for trail usage, it is gonna plague the HAM channels, possibly, that much more!!! Again, assuming someone was to choose 144-148 (2m) band. But still!!! Finally, again, as stated earlier, I don't understand why people just don't get those dual radio blister packs? I've personally gotten roughly 1mi out, and possibly a little bit more, with those while out on a family emergency related trip and we needed car-to-car communications!

One thing to take into consideration, you can use those dual band Baofengs to communicate with those "blister pack radios"!!! Granted, the HAM radios will definitely go further out, but you can still have that option by going to the FRS system!!! I'd have to go back and look, but CH8 is on a 460MHz range frequency on those radios!!! Another thing to take into consideration as well. NOW, LOL, you have to consider "radio type" classification, to which, YES, this is most definitely where I HIGHLY agree with you!!! FRS frequency, when it comes down to it, is a FRS frequency!!! PERIOD!!! Yes, it has to do with how much wattage output, blah, blah, blah, BUT it's a F'N frequency!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is associated as FRS (Family Radio Service/System)!!! There are about 7x of those frequencies that are associated/dedicated to the FRS system!!! Why NOT just F'N make it used for ANY radio???!!! That is where the BS lies Danny!!!

Go here for the study guide http://www.arrl.org/ham-radio-license-manual, as said either take the quiz's to memorize the answers or learn more in depth. Afterward find a local club or organization that have tests every so often (can be found on the web link provided), have to show up in person for this no online test taking. One thing to remember is that you can legally use HAM radio in an emergency situation without a license. Also the Baofeng HT can be programmed to operate on the GSM/GMRS frequency however that is a legal debate as well as you legally need a license for GMRS frequencies.

You NO LONGER need to know CW (i.e. morse code), but I am still teaching myself that as well. The downfall, not gonna help much if the "other end" has no F'N clue what a di-dah-di-dah etc etc etc IS, LOL!!! Might as well throw a F'N rock in the air with a piece of paper of your emergency situation written on it as you just might get better results from THAT instead of morse code!!! LMAO!!!

btw, @moodywizard, you probably already know this:

To get the GMRS license, it is, I believe, $65 or $85 per 5yrs. You basically just send a check and they send you a license w/ call sign in the mail, LOL!!! NO TEST required. You still have to obey certain rules, of course, but there is no TEST! There are even GMRS repeaters out there that can be connected to!!!

NOW, as far as the FRS system is concerned, you don't need a license nor pay for it, BUT, it goes by "radio classification type" AND the wattage output, which I believe is around 0.5Watts!!! I can almost PI$$ farther, LOL!!! Not really, but 0.5W is F'N joke and the ruling "clan" on the hill knows this!!! Anyways, those FRS radios are "classified" as FRS radios!!! A Baofeng, even IF you could drop the wattage down to around 0.5W or whatever ridiculous low number it happens to be, is NOT a FRS classification type radio!!! PERIOD!!! It's like saying that shi- isn't shi-, but yet, it really is shi-???!!! LOL!!!

haha yeah I know all that stuff just was responding to spartans question with a link to the web site and for others interested as well. I need to take the test, using the web link I see that theres one in my area beginning of August. Should be enough time to read through the material (I already skimmed through the quiz's a few times before..).
