So my 4wd light has been blinking and not working for a few months and I decided it has to be the actuator. I put a new one in and it still did not work. I brought it to the dealer for a diagnosis and they said it is one of the wires in the transfer case wiring harness and will cost $700 just to take apart and look at. Has anyone ever done this themselves or have a diagram for the wires.

    None... Yet.
Mine was blinking for a little bit. Found out buddy accidentally pushed the diff loc when he detailed the truck. That was an easy fix. Freaked when I couldn't get it in 4Hi, only LO. Thought for sure something was wrong with the actuator.

No idea, but $700 to look at some wiring sounds insane. Can't be that difficult to look at. In any case, if you don't end up doing it yourself at least take it to an independent mechanic, I'm sure it'll cost half what the stealership is asking, maybe less.

when i had this problem i replaced the actuator and it worked fine. there are many people on this forum who have had this issue. seems like everyone on this forum wants to steer clear of answering questions about this issue. i dont know why that is. but like the guy before me said $700??!! thats flat out rediculous

If your having the same problem as other members, myself included, have had then taking the actuator apart and sodering the contacts on the motor should fix the issue. Assuming this is the issue with both the old and new parts. Do a search, there's a write up on this somewhere.

I had 4 hi but not 4 lo ever since I bought my 05 Tacoma used in 09. Just had my frame replaced about two, weeks ago and seems when Toyota replaced it they fixed my 4lo. Only thing I can figure is it was a bad wire in the harness they replace when they change frames.
Glad they did it though. I got to take that off the someday I'll fix it list. Lol
