If you go up a size to 18" or down a size to 16" - does the computer learn the difference and adjust the speedo ?

I have a '15 Sport model (which has the factory 17" 5 Spoke wheels)

I see some enthusiasts who have gone with either factory or aftermarket 18" wheels, or for example - down to the 16" baja bead lock style.

Just curious for those of you who have switched out wheels ....

inquiring minds want to know ;)

It all depends on the overall diameter of the tire. 265/70/16 is same as 265/65/17. Computer does not adjust speedo. You have to adjust and learn how far its out. Speedo generally reads slow a couple mph with stock tires. I went from 265/70/16 to 265/75/16 and it reads dam near right on. See tire size calc in my sig to run some different sizes

I'm sorry but this shit made me laugh.
If only it worked like that. Would be nice

Just because you change wheel size doesn't mean the over all tire size has to change. You can still run similar diameter tires, the only concerns you have there are how heavy the new tires get. So if you got new wheels but tires that were the same diameter as stock then your odo/speedo would not be impacted; however if the tires were significantly heavier then it can impact gearing/shifting. But of course getting tires that much heavier with just a 2 inch increase in sidewall is probably not going to happen. Differences should be negligible.

I asked a question about re-calibrating Speedos yesterday as I'm changing tire size. What I found out was if you want to recalibrate your speedo/odo you have to buy a device that installs into your gauge in the dash. This will allow you to use a USB to transfer new tire/wheel data to the gauge cluster. It's a device that costs around $230-250. Probably very worth it if you are making any more than a single size change. You also have the ability to re-calibrate the ECU with it I believe so you get better shifting points with much larger tires that are much heavier.

Yeah, I should have been more specific as I was familiar with keeping the same overall tire diameter- I'll look for your post.

    Appreciate it.
