I took a look at the threads on Cold Air Intakes and it seemed like there was a lot of disagreement as to 1. If they were worth the money and 2. Which one to go with. So I will pose the question again.

I pull a boat with my truck and would like to increase power. My plan is to add an TRD performance exhaust and a cold air intake (this made more sense then my first idea of a leveling kit). I spoke to a friend who installed both TRD products and has been very happy with them. I have also read that the exhaust is well worth the money however the Cold Air Intake from TRD is not neccesary and that an aftermarket would do just as good.

    My questions are:
    1. Will the Cold Air Intake coupled with the exhaust give me an noticable power increase.
    2. TRD v.s After Market
    3. If After Market, which one would work best for my needs.

    Thanks for your thoughts

Well, I won't go into the whole CAI lecture since you've already read up on it but yes, they are essentially pointless for power or MPG gain on Tacomas. The factory air intake pulls the same temperature air. The CAI will do nothing but increase the noise.

That money would be better spent investing into your exhaust system, if you go with performance headers and exhaust you'll actually see something from it. Not enough to justify the cost IMO but opinions seem to differ wildly on that. Personally, I'd save up those pennies for a supercharger. Best way to see performance gains hands down. Especially if you do upgrade your exhaust.

Yup pretty much. I just got rid of my AFE Stage 2 SI CAI with the Volant scoop. I originally got this setup for the TRD blower but since Toyota discontinued it which cause every dealer to jack up the prices, I said never mind. $6000 for blower  I'd rather use it on the suspension.
