So I am heading up to B.C. in mid August and planning on hugging the coast as much as I can. I have a house about 100 miles north of Vancouver which is my ultimate destination. Last year I drove from San Diego through Utah, Wyoming, Montana and Alberta to get there. This year I am planning on making my way through the Usal Rd. in Northern California and then continuing North along the coast and spending some time in the Olympic Peninsula. Looking for any tips on places to camp, kayak, surf, and fly fish.

Plan right now is to leave San Diego on 8/10 and head straight up to Marin county to spend a night on a friends ranch. Then head to Usal beach campground on the 11th. From there my only deadline is to get on the ferry out of Port Angeles to Victoria on 8/18.

Anyone have any favorite camp spots? I got pretty lucky last year finding some incredible views on BLM land in Wyoming and Montana. Ill be traveling with my dog so national parks can be a pain. Thanks for any hints/tips!

I've done this trip a few times, Vancouver to San Diego on US 101. Do a lot of research on the web, parks are extremely busy through August, so be prepared for full campgrounds unless booked in advance, especially in Oregon. 3 years ago was our last trip, was going to do again this year, but our dollar fell too low to justify it.

Ya I've made the drive plenty of times but never had the time to go explore much. Usually just taking a straight shot on the 5. Trying to avoid large campgrounds and looking for BLM land areas. Last year I was really successful in finding some awesome locations throughout wyoming and montana but searching google earth and the internet for Washington has been tougher.

Anyone feel like sharing any favorite GPS coordinates? PM me and Ill send you some good ones for Utah, Wyoming, Montana...

I've got as friend who camps here quite a bit with family, and it's close to Anacortes.

Depending where you plan on crossing into bc I'll be able to better direct you. Forget about government run sites in bc they've been booked for months and are no fun. How capable is your truck ?are you looking to wheel to amazing sites?

Ill be crossing the port angeles to victoria ferry. Going to be spending a few weeks North of Vancouver near Powell River. I have a cabin up there i head to every summer. Main zone Ive been planning to search around is olympic peninsula and coastal oregon but open to anything really. Truck is pretty dialed. Icon lift and K02's with skids. Not looking to get into anything too crazy since ill be going solo. I do have maxtrax, rotopax, as well as onboard air though...

AHHHH the island unfortunately imprisoned by the ferry Corp. I'm afraid I'm pretty useless for the island and other areas you mentioned as I have yet to explore them. Check in with vitoyota4wd and bctoyota4wd for some fun stuff on the island... to bad lots of group runs in Aug on the mainland
