I bought a Tacoma about a month ago, and although I really liked the OEM bed cover, I chose one that didn't have it included, thinking I would be able to purchase one from the dealer at a later date. From my understanding though, it is not possible to order those from a dealer at this time, so I am looking into potentially purchasing an OEM cover secondhand. So, this brings me to a couple of questions. First, my Tacoma came equipped with the bed rails; would those interfere with the OEM cover in any way? Second, if I bought the cover secondhand, how hard is the installation, and is there anything I need to check on my truck to make sure I can install it prior to buying? Sorry if these are obvious questions, I'm a first time truck owner and don't have a whole lot of knowledge about truck accessories. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Check the Marketplace forum, there have been several OEM covers listed for sale. It's best to find someone locally that is selling one so you can also exchange the bed rails. Why not just order one of the other manufacturers hard folding tonneau cover? None of the other tonneau covers require cutting the bed rails like the OEM cover does.

So the bed rails get in the way of the OEM cover? Just looking at them in the back of my truck I figured that would be the case. I really wouldn't mind buying other covers, I would just want to make sure I choose a good one. To be honest, being a first time truck owner (and not having anybody else in my family ever own a truck), it's kind of intimidating considering how many bed covers are out there. I thought I had one picked out that I liked, it had hundreds of reviews and an average rating of 4.5/5, and seemed like it would be an excellent choice. But then I saw a thread on here saying from somebody who had that exact cover, and they said it has apparently melted a little in the summer heat. So now I'm skeptical about buying that one. Any suggestions on a good hard folding tonneau cover? I have the 5' bed.

I have the Fold-a-Cover G4 Elite on the short bed. Very happy with it so far but have only had it for a month.

After doing some research the fold a cover g4 elite was my choice also. I just purchased today and it is my 1st tonneau so im kinda in the same boat as OP.

Edit: I too inquired about the oem cover. 2 different dealerships told me that there is a frame peice that has to be installed at the factory. Thats why they dont sell it. I dont know the install details, just going off what i was told
