Hello everyone. Just picked up a 2000 Taco but here's the story...

Went to register the vehicle at the DMV and they were having trouble locating the VIN on the dash. The DMV thought it was tampered with and got me worried. So they sent me down to the state patrol office... luckily we were able to locate the dash VIN. The windshield was replaced with an aftermarket one and it ended up covering up the entire VIN plate! So a sigh of relief there.

However, to be safe they also tried looking for the VIN in the engine bay. They thought it would be on the engine block some where but we couldn't find it. So my question is... can someone point me towards the right direction? Maybe with a picture of where their VIN is located on the engine?

Thanks so much for any help!

I take it that the sticker is no longer on the door jam?

The VIN should be on the drivers side door jamb along with the tire pressures. That's what they scan in Texas to get mine inspected. Personally, I have never noticed a VIN plate on the engine bay like in American cars.

Sticker is still on the drive side door jam but the state patrol was more interested in the one on the engine?

You may find an engine build # on the block, not sure if the engine has a vin pad.

I went out and looked at mine just for you, and I find no vin plate anywhere on the engine or engine bay. YET.....there are 3 nummi stickers...1 is on the bottom of the hood, 2 are on each fender in the bay. These had the vin on them, yet mine is so old, and the Texas heat, only the one on the bottom lip of the hood has any numbers readable, and the last 2 I could make out were the last 2 of the vin.

Thank you all for helping and looking for me! :) That's assuring to know that I'm not the only one without an engine VIN plate! I also have those fender stickers so I think that we're pretty safe right?!

There is no vin number on the engine. I did extensive research on this when I bought a truck with a different engine than the original. I believe there are little vin stickers on the hood and both doors. I could be wrong on that though.

Well they let you register it, right? The door jamb should be the deciding factor along with the vin on the dash. The other parts can be replaced and never match.

If the vin on the dash and on the stickers match what the title/registration, they shouldn't give any problems. They couldn't find the dash vin, but police verified it is there and correct.
