Yes definitely need a torque wrench to reinstall, and the torque you use is basically hand tight- which is no different from a regular filter.
I haven't looked at the Tacoma, but the RAV4 had a little metal locking tab you have to bend out of the way before unscrewing the filter housing. Don't forget to bend it back in before putting the filter back on.

So what part number did you end up using and where did you source it from?

    :)

I dont think anyone mentioned it on here but there is a TRD version of our 04152-YZZA1 oil filter:

    PTR43-00082 TRD Oil Filter
    https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Toyota-Parts-PTR43-00082-Filter/dp/B00BRL6Y7E/

It has metal end caps vs "nothing" and appears to be a more robust filter media.
(use 3 plies of 100 percent synthetic glass/polyester blend filtration media that is 98 percent efficient at 20 microns)
    -Red silicone gaskets
-Kit includes two replacement high temperature Vitron housing gaskets and drain adapter
-Ported and polished back plate provides smooth oil inlet holes to help reduce oil restriction

It can be had cheaper at some places but then with shipping it's either the same or more so I gave up looking and just ordered
    them from Amazon....

It was mentioned earlier but very briefly. I plan to run the TRD filter and Mobil 1 oil. I'll be at the dealer on Monday, i'll see what they charge for this filter and post up. I'll be doing my first oil and filter change at 1000 miles

The larger V8 filter can also be run.

Does it fit inside the Tacoma filter housing?

A different cap is required... It exists, but doesn't have the drain valve machined in. It would be simple to add it, minor drilling and tapping. A billet unit could also be produced. Drop me a note if interested.

Why not post the filter PN and housing PN for all of us?

    This will not work.

Sure, why not... :D Let's see if this one can spread as quickly as the original aluminum cap part # did years ago. Lexus cap part # 15620-38030. Again, the drain needs to be machined in. If you find any value in this info, and can't machine the part yourself, drop me note and I can help. Filters are numerous. Any filter that fits the Tundra 5.7 V8 will work here, factory is 04152-YZZA4. I'll give this its own thread with all info.

    Thanks for the info.

For those looking to run the better TRD filter, use PN PTR43-00081

As for the drain on the bottom of the housing, i'm personally really not worried. Yeah it'll be a little more messy but no big deal. That's what a bigger drain pan and a couple pig mats are for.

So no one gets confused here:

Our factory setup using: Filters 04152-31090 or 04152-YZZA1 directly cross to a TRD PTR43-00082.

The PTR43-00081 is a much taller filter that only the modified Lexus #15620-38030 housing would fit over.

    :fingerscrossed:

:( IMPORTANT! I just doubled checked, and the 2016 Taco can't use the V8 filter. It will only work on the vehicles that use the yzza5 filter... Or roller cam equipped 4.0l V6 engines. I can make a billet version in the proper length.

Nothing fancy, yet. Weathertech mats front/back + their mud guards, some reflective striping and custom carpets on the storage bin lids underneath the jump seats.
    Yes. Thereabouts. 6.2(?)

The oil filter socket wrench TOY 640, a socket and ratchet to fit plus the filter is all you need. Drop the skid plate, dump the oil, replace the filter 04152-YZZA1 (if needed assuming you are at 5000 or an interval that follows without an oil change one at the dealer), add new oil and done. The hardest part is the skid plate if you haven't ever taken one off before and even that is minor at best. Doesn't take any longer than a normal oil change on a newer vehicle since most vehicles are getting some sort of underplating to prevent water and crud from bouncing up into the engine area.

My 14' Mazda 6 had plastic panels all under the car for aerodynamics, maybe? Anyhow, there was a neat trapdoor about the size of a notebook that you removed to access the filter & drain.
