That sucks but i had a similar instance about 15yrs ago as it was just prior to our opening deer archery season here in Ohio and i always carried a pair of Leupold binoculars in my center console of my truck so i could glass fields while scouting ..
Long story short, i had a leak in one of my tires and made it to the local Sunoco service station .. young guy pulled my truck in to look at it and found nail in tire ... he repaired while i sat inside in waiting area.
A few days later i went to reach for the binoculars to check out a big buck standing in a bean field and "Oh shit" where did they go? It had to be the boy at Sunoco station and i went back and confronted him but he denied it .. i told him " karma is a bitch " and said a few other choice words. I contacted owner and told him what happened but he said "nobody here would look through a vehicle and steal" .. i said
:brianr: and your gas station !

1 month is so long though. Their defense is easy "ummm. Sir, it's been 1 month. surely you have left your vehicle unattended since the day you left here".

It is hard to find good help now a days for minimum wage. If he were to fire the guy it would most likely take some time to find someone else. Then again he could be a family member or a friend he promise to give a job his/her son. I hear you though shit like that pisses me off as well. People are so fucked up now a days. I just had a friend who had his BMW 750 passenger window completed broken out and all that was taken was a CD and 88 cents

Seriously, it was just a tech being lazy. Newer KO2's look nothing like the stock baloney skins that come on a 2015 TRD. I'm glad you took your job seriously, but if he can't even gauge a tire how'd he manage to change my oil. One more free oil change and I'll be happy to do the rest of my servicing.

Don't be so sure it was the mechanic. I noticed some stuff missing from my truck right after a tire rotation at Sams Club several years ago. I politely spoke to the manager. Didn't accuse anyone, just stated that I noticed it missing after they worked on it. We viewed the security tape and it would have been near impossible for them to take it. I filed a police report. My stuff was recovered after a theft ring was broken up a month later. Someone had gotten into my truck the night before.

I hate a thief If I had it my way I would put a thief in the back bed of my Tacoma with the tail gate down and a rope around their neck tied to a tree and drive off

I used to teach all the bad boys at a trade school. Two of them worked as valet car parkers at a big restaurant they used to brag how they would steal anything they could (radar detectors tools money etc). If the driver came back or discovered it there were like 5 or 6 kids so who you gonna blame.
That's why I park my own car. If they say you cant say bye.

That is just shitty right there. Especially for the people that paid them a tip and later realized that they actually paid for their stuff to be stolen.

Give them a terrible(honest)Yelp review, some companies will negotiate with you to remove the negative feedback! Plus it's only deserving

I would call the general manager, not the service manager, state what you think happened and why. Don't get nasty since so much time has passed, let he or she know. Even if they do not make it right by you, if the manager has any sense, he will get the word out to his team. 5 minute call and they may make things right and if not, don't go back, I wouldn't anyway but make it clear that they lost a customer and you will share your experience on Yelp to help protect others from a similar fate. I think a call to let them know is valuable.

I make it a point to develop a relationship with only one service advisor so I get the best possible
prices and deals. Plus if something happens like this you have no problem bringing it up. Shit, it could be the kid who just drove it back into the bay. They are usually young
    and only make minimum wage.

I'd be back at the dealership ASAP..... Bastards! That kind of stuff just pisses you off, and it's not the value, it's the principal. I was pissed when a valet stole my brand new pack of gum out of my console....lol.
