mttneedham, welcome aboard the Tacoma train. Fifth Tacoma is not the charm. Taking Taco in Tuesday for third visit , same issues, added 7/8 qt. ATF( Toyota performed), re flashed (supposedly), issues continued, case mgr. instructed me to return to dealership for another re flash , called for apt. armed with instructions to perform re flash , service advisor indicated truck would surely return to the old habits. Toyota Case Manager indicated Toyota dealerships are to perform re flash as long as vehicle is under the powertrain warranty. Well, July 14th 2016 , up pops T-SB-0077-16, away we go dealer has open arms now, perhaps we have some factory assistance with thisTSB( finally) I am a retired Honda Dealer found Ridgeline not my cup of tea as well, as far back as 2010, will post results of TSB performed, if it is indeed performed. All 16 Tacoma owners desire is a product that does not take us back to the future, performance wise, good luck owners.

One question that's bothering me: why, if it software related and all trucks have had the same software, would any truck NOT display the symptoms? Seems like this should simply be a "fix it if they ask for it" as opposed to "drive it and confirm before fixing." With software, I'd assume that they all do it, but some owners are not bothered by it.

Edit: assuming truck is part of VIN groups listed.

I purchased my 2016 2 days ago and it is in the VIN Group. I mentioned it to my dealer and he said to drive it for awhile and see if I have any problems. I have about a 100 miles on it now and I have not noticed any thing wrong yet

There will be a containment point, how they mark it who knows. We at the big truck plant (Freightliner) record it by production date and VIN.

    Look at my post #265.

My appt is on tuesday. I think Ill give Corporate a jingle along with the service manager to make sure I don't show up and find they won't do it. So frustrating.

Here is my data, see my long winded post from the other thread and notice the date of it. I stand by the fact that the people on this forum had LOTS of us chasing something for nothing. Both mine and my dads truck are completely different after getting the reflashes.

I am not taking sides in this discussion but I have to ask you a question. If Toyota doesn't live up to their responsibility and your transmission dies just beyond the warranty period due to neglect who will suffer, you or Toyota?

If it dies it dies because it was made poorly, not for the lack of ATF.
And to answer you question Toyota will suffer because I and many others will be driving the technically superior GMC sierra that doesn’t have a dipstick on the 8 spd transmission either and will be low on ATF from the factory also once the trolls take a stab at it lmaoo!
    Hope that helps!
    Cheers!

Read back and see where people said that they were underfilled only to find later it was overfilled! I think it is more paranoia at this point than actuality. You had a few people that were underfilled now everyone thinks they are the same, when in actually the TSB fixed things. You think 1/2 quart low in a tranny is doomsday ? Most people out there with any car today don't even know how to check a tranny with a dipstick and you think they are all proper level ? LOL ! My engine is a half of quart low on oil, RUN ! Quote where these were shipping with 3 quarts low. Better than missing c clips in the honda engines causing stopped sales !!! That's my expertise.

Just a note on the underfill. I remember when I owned a 63 Impala with a 2 speed automatic. When it slipped between 1st and 2nd it ALWAYS turned out to be low by a qt of fluid. Fluid level equates to internal pressures equates to fluid transfer of power. My 16 Tacoma did exhibit low fluid symptoms that topping off atf did not resolve. I was 1 qt low. I do not believe plus or minus 1/2 qt would cause any measurable damage or shift issues. It just makes it hard troubleshooting issues when computers have so much control. Flashing in 2 days. Very anxious.

Just a quick update after 200 mIles post TSB on a hilly highway.

Cruise worked great with no gear hunting, shifts were smooth, averaged about 21 mpg. Stoked!

Is there anyway to tell if the TSB was actually done? I took my truck to the dealership yesterday and they said they performed the TSB, but they did not give me any type of paper work stating what they did. He said that the TSB wasn't in their pay code system yet so they said they would have to email me the receipt on Tuesday. Does this sound legit?? Thank you! The truck does seem to be shifting better, but idk if it is just a placebo effect or not.

It just "might" have something to do with the amount of fluid present in the tranny... MY thought..!!
