I think if you have stock size tires. You will be okay. I've had 285 70r17 from 300 mile mark, but my 07' had exactly the same tires without the trouble. Im wondering if my 07' and 16' have different rear end gearing #'s ?

 

This is my first automatic after owning 3 manual cars/trucks. I'm actually satisfied with it except it likes to gear hunt on hills

 

I switched over to 265/70 KO2's right away and never saw an issue
with the tach jumping, with or without cruise, hills or long drives. I just
don't have that issue. The fucking giant vibrating dildo that appears to
be hidden under my floor board......that I DO have.

 

Maybe the giant vibrating dildo sound is just that hard working 3.5 at its best ?

Have you greased yer U joints..? Could that be the "dildo" effect..??

 

I think the vibrating dildo is part of the motor mounts , they went with cheap rubber on tacomas vs hydraulic motor mounts on the Lexus

 

I officially fixed my transmission issues today !!!!!!

I just signed the papers on a white 2016 trd pro 4Runner. Special ordered it and it will be here July 1

Hope that one works out better for you, how much more did you pay when trading it in for the 4Runner if you don't mind me asking?

 

4x4 Limited. US build in March. 350 miles and transmission has been great so far. Highway and city driving. All flat roads. Gas mileage is about 19 mpg, but with a lot of effort. So far, I love the truck.

 

For your sake, I hope you DID fix your problem... Before you go to pick this new vehicle up, I suggest that all guns/knives and the like be locked up securely and your wife be given the only key.

Did you know that the new 4runner has the exact same underfilled tranny..?? (Just kidding...!! Easy buddy)... don't reach for the .45 yet..

I originally paid $38,500 for the limited ,
They are giving me $34,500 on trade so I'm loosing $4,000 right off the bat , unless Toyota corporate follows through on their end and helps with that number... I know wishful thinking but it's worth a shot considering how much this truck sucks .
And I got the trd pro 4Runner ordered exactly the way I want for $42,750.
All said and done I'll be $10,000 more on the 4 runner give or take a few $
But honestly it will be worth the money in the long run to have the better motor and a 100%Japanese assembled Toyota
The way they all should be .

 

My truck will sustain 80 mph on cc all day long with no trouble. It's not for sale just yet though. Oh what a feelin'!

nope. I don't have any issues with the engine or the power band,
only the vibe is an issue.

 

Me, too. My behaves on cruise exactly like this.

If not on cruise, a grade will cause the speed to decrease slowly (normal behavior for any vehicle), but pressing the accelerator pedal does nothing until I've pressed so far it downshifts and continues accelerating until I let off, then it upshifts and starts slowing. It is nearly impossible to maintain a steady speed on a grade without constantly operating the accel. pedal.

On my 2007 w/M6, there was a direct correlation between throttle position and speed. With this A6, there is at best a very long delay(seconds) between throttle position input and engine response under load. It isn't much more precise than a Model T throttle lever but at least the Model T responded immediately to change.

With my 2007 I could traverse the Siskiyou Mountains traveling N on I5 in 6th gear in cruise control. With my 2016 it is constantly downshifting/upshifting in cruise to as low as 3rd gear. Out of cruise it's just a battle to maintain speed. And it doesn't much matter if the ECT Power mode is enabled.

Note: I had the trans fluid checked by the dealer at about 1200 miles and found it to be nearly a quart low. Filling it didn't resolve any of the on-the-road issues, although it did fix the Park to Drive behavior.

 

Excellent post/description.....Unfortunately I don't think the current TSB flash pertains to this very common problem.

 

Replaced my 2010 (V6 5 spd auto) with a 2016 TRD Offroad (V6 6 spd auto) recently. Very disappointed in the power train combo. I live in SW Colorado where there are lots of mountain roads and hills. As soon as I got it out on them I noticed that the trans is continually hunting between gears. For reference, I could put my 2010 in 4th and it would hold 65 easily without downshifting on a steep grade I drive. The 2016 hunts when I put it in 4th (4th to 3rd to 4th continually). Found that I have to put it in 3rd to keep it from hunting, but then I'm at (too) high RPM and it is noisy. Even on less steep grades the trans hunts. I counted 12 shifts once when I left the trans in D on a 0.7 mile moderate grade. The ECT button doesn't seem to help.

Saw in another thread about the 2016 low ATF issue. Took mine in and the dealer found it was 0.8 qts low. They also reset the ECU. This didn't seem to help hill performance much.

I'm now using mid-grade gas instead of regular. That helped my 2010 out. But I can't tell yet if it's making a difference with my 2016.

Looking around the web, I found the 2016 is rated at 265 lb-ft @ 4600 rpm, while my 2010 was 266 lb-ft at 4000 rpm. Also found some torque curves for both engines, which confirms my 2010 had a more favorable torque vs mph curve. I noticed Toyota slightly increased the rear differential from 3.73 for 2010 to 3.909 for 2016, maybe to compensate for the new engine's torque curve.

I've seen where people say that Toyota is going to come out with a transmission program fix; others say unlikely. I see other posts with this issue Wondering what can be done to make Toyota address this.
