BTW, I see that this is still a great site after being away for 5 years. I quickly jumped on here to read about 3rd gen Tacos after I test drove one last night, and the information I got is really invaluable.

I test drove a 4Runner and Taco back to back. Immediately decided on and got a '16 4Runner TEP w KDSS. Couldn't be happier, no regrets.

I think you got all the great options.

I wish I could get KDSS on a regular Trail, but I don't think I can. The price tag just keeps going up. Also, it's hard to find a vehicle for me because I have a preference on either white/silver and I wouldn't take a vehicle with 20+ miles already on it. There's a white 4R TEP that just arrived at the distribution center from Japan and might be at the dealership in 2-3 weeks, vs the Taco that is already in freight status and should be at the dealership by next week.

I did make my decision after only having driven a standard 2wd SR5, couldn't test drive a trail or kdss or 4wd until my vehicle got delivered. No doubt I would have been happy too with a standard Trail w/o KDSS.

You can get KDSS on a regular trail. On Cars.com: http://m.cars.com/vehicledetail/#vdp?listingId=666278188

Just go on cars.com, search 4Runner, filter by Trail trim, and type KDSS in the box at the bottom. You are unfortunately at the mercy of your region and what they order for local trucks. My region has KDSS on a lot of the trails that are ordered, so it wasn't super hard to find. Ohio, across the river, never gets KDSS.

2nd this. I did the same and the T4R trumps the Taco all around especially in level of comfort. The Taco rules in cargo space especially with a topper on. Pros and cons with both.

I've decided to get the Tacoma. DCSB OR 4x4 MT. I really miss having a truck so hopefully the MT works out.

I'm preparing myself in case I get the sticky tranny issue that I've read more than a few here have experienced. Hopefully, I get lucky. But if not, then I'll have to deal with it.

I have to wait for 4 weeks as MT is hard to come by. They can do a dealer-exchange but I don't want any miles on the truck so I'll just wait for one that can be allocation-exchanged.

I just wanted to update you guys...

I finally got to test-drive an M/T Taco. It was good to get a 1st-hand comparison between the A/T Taco, M/T Taco and the 4Runner.

At the end of the day, I decided to go with a base 4Runner Trail that's in freight status.

Below is my detailed personal assessment of the M/T Taco after driving it for 20 miles.
