I'm potentially looking to get a Tacoma again - and found one that peaked my interest. I'm a little less knowledgeable on the 1st Gens - and this ad isn't exactly full of info. But does this price seem a little high? (remember - it's Canadian dollars - and there would be 5% tax on top of that).

I'm hopefully going to look at it in person this Friday or Saturday. Other than the usual suspects (frame rust, leaks, etc), is there anything else I should be looking for?

That seems to be fair, but slightly on the high side. I'm not sure what the going rate for a Tacoma is in Canada, but $11,500 USD buys you a newer truck with less miles in Maryland. I like the mods on the truck though, especially that front bumper.

I would say it's worth looking at for sure. A little over priced but if the frame is clean I would say it's worth it. The mileage isn't bad at all probably average or below average for that year. I have seen low mile Tacomas in worse shape than a high mileage Tacoma. All depends on how well the previous owner(s) took care of it. As you mentioned check the frame well and be cautious if there is an undercoated frame. Most of the time it is dealer installed but sometimes it is applied to cover up bad rust. Check the bushings in the upper and lower control arms. Sometimes it's hard to tell they are shot by just looking at them but with a test drive you will feel the clunk when you hit bumps. Also check the cv axle boots for tears especially because the lift will wear them prematurely. Ask about when the last time the timing belt was changed. That should have been done around 160 Kil. These little things you may find wrong add up and you can use that to bring down the price some. Hope that helps some.

Miles are disgusting at that price.

    That is 159K miles.

I picked up my '04 ext cab, 2.7L, 5 speed 4x4 with 103K miles for $6000 here on the east coast of Canada. My frame has some rust, but is solid.

Ask about the frame, any truck in the north will have issues with frame rust, unless its been replaced.

That price is a little high, but if the truck has a new frame and is very clean it's worth it.

I would personally jump on that so long as the frame is solid.

It's a DC, TRD package, relatively low(ish) miles, has lift & wheels & bumpers.

13-15k USD would be a good price

Really appreciate the info here. I'll take some photos of it, when I see it. Hopefully it's as nice close up, as it is in these existing photos.

Me too. They aint makin any more of these (unfortunately) and its the best looking truck design out there. Owner clearly cared for it with the clean mods but obviously have the frame checked, get a pre-buy inspection, get all the repair records you can, contact former owner if possible, take a look at the VIN in Toyota website. If all that checks out, I'd say its worth it. Put it like this: if the above checks out, someone will buy it at that price.
