That's 6 people out of 10 pages. Not exactly informative. Last week I read most people already had an appointment for this monday to get this update done. Last 2 pages have been nothing but the usual shitfest. I'm a member of many other car forums...trust me this 3rd gen forum sucks. Too many little girls complaining. I expect the usual suspects to bring the hate, which I won't even bother responding to.

 

I guess it's a reflection of the product.

 

I guess we'll see 5-10 years from now. Again, '06, '07, '09, '11. Some of the years that the 2nd gen drivers love the most had plenty of issues. How are they today? Fine.

GM fk killed people, read the news today regarding huge court ruling. Ford and Dodge, tons of issues. No perfect maker.

 

My transmission issues started at just over 4,000 miles. Sorry, but I don't think the dealer would have let me test drive the truck for that many miles.

 

I'm sure if you went to gmc they will be more than happy to buy your taco. With some knowledge and research you can probably trade in with minimum to none in loss.

 

Sucks that others are having so many issues and problems. I will say aside from the shitty transmission issues with my truck I've never really had any other significant issues or concerns so far, and I go in for my 10k service tomorrow.

 

Squeaky leaf springs, a rattle in the dash or some small electrical quirks I can live with but a transmission is pretty damn substantial to the vehicle. Same thing with a rear diff failing.

 

Agree 100%. I have some really minor things like the Entune randomly going blank and resetting itself a couple times but that hasn't happened in a long time. Aside from that I really can't thing of any other things. My mpg does suck now though since putting on a camper shell and a set of KO2's going up one size from stock.

 

I just did the update and the truck rides perfect. At above 25 mph when the tranny puts you in the higher gears to save gas, all you need to do is slightly step on the pedal and it upshifts like it should. Before the update I needed to mash the pedal and the truck would upshift to a passing gear causing really high RPMs. That is what gave that dead pedal feel. I drove it all day and totally forgot about it.

No brainer folks get the update for free, you will not be disappointed.

Buddy of mine went yesterday to the dealership asked about the TSB of course the dame service guy didnt know jack shit....luckily there was a tech was passing through and he asked him....to his taco in and did the TSB. He told me it drives a lot different in a good way...he printed out the file on this thread and showed it to them.

Hi all,

Was reading thru the Forum and saw this picture and hopefully makes it back to the person.

Took my Tacoma in around 16,000. Told them about the squeeking noise. The service department/ dealer ordered me new squeek pads to install on the leaf springs that are thicker and replacing them under warranty. Also, noticed they rubbed white grease on to U clamps on the leaf springs as well.

Took it in for a transmission problem as well, drove a lot of highway and didn't notice it until my new job where I drive the city more and took it out of ECT now. Fluid was low, just have to mention it and know what you are talking about when you mention it to the service consultants. Shifts a lot better now but 1st gear still feels luggish when I am on it. Still gear hunts on the freeway/ mountains but figured its normal, more to come when I take it back in and mention the software update.

I got the update, I love it. I have driven about 150 miles of city, highway and mild hills... no change in MPG.

 

Got it done this past Saturday. What a difference... no more sluggish upshifts, the truck actually feels like it has decent power. Before it would downshift on the slightest incline and now it can actually hold a cruising speed without downshifting. Feels like a different truck completely.

 

If you have had the trans TSB please detail your result as to:

1) if the TSB has fully eliminated your problems or notice significant differences
There is no more P->R->D delays. Shifting seems more responsive to throttle changes.
I have not tried to use cruise control.

2) if any new issues were created by the software
None so far.

3) if you noticed an mpg difference/power changes
Tiny bit more power in the first three gears. I feel like the
transmission allows the engine to rev a little and once
you have the desired speed it shifts up quickly/calmly.
MPG is about the same.

4) if you had your fluid level inspected at any point
Fluid was personally filled at 700 miles to proper level.
Truck has 16k on the ODO when flashed.
Driven 100 miles since then.

Overall, satisfied. The major reason I was eager for this
update was for the shift delay in the mornings.
During me backing up, I would have to hit the gas and
the transmission would slip. My concern was gear
damage or potentially hitting someone/something
with a jolt when the transmission would fall into proper gear.

 

I'm very skeptical of all these review. Got people thinking their truck will magically sprout V8 power.
