After reading the "read first" post, I became dually intimidated and annoyed with the rest of the thread. I have a 2012 Taco Prerunner and am looking into getting HIDs. I am pretty certain that I must first get projector headlight assemblies, before getting the bulbs/ballasts. In the "read first" post, it mentions that there are many knockoff and cheap options, but you get what you pay for. So my question for all your DIYers is where have you found your assemblies and bulbs? Are there any trusted manufacturers or stores where I can find an entire assembly? If it is any help, I would prefer the 'smoked' look to the assembly.

This newbie Taco owner appreciates any help and links.

I've used kits from DDM Tuning for about a decade now with good luck. I ordered up parts for a retro fit for my 2010 Tacoma and at about half the cost of some advertised here I'm happy with the results.

Don't use aftermarket headlights. Most all of them are trash it's only a question of how long until they crap out. Retrofit an OEM headlight housing and use a decent supplier of the conversation materials with a good warranty or you'll likely be stuck paying the same price over and over again.

The retrofit source is the best place for HID components. They are more expensive but quality and warranty cant be beat!
Or I could always build you a set :)
