I have a 2004 Prerunner and it just recently started doing this thing where when I try to speed up it starts jumping like it is missing and can't gain speed. At first I thought I had just bought some bad gas with water in it but it has been doing it for the past week and a half. I bought some gas treatment thinking it might help but nothing so far. It feels like it is losing power like maybe a bad fuel pump or some dirt in my air filter. It is hard to explain exactly what it is doing but I would like to get it fixed. It is just like something is missing and it only happens when I try and floor the gas peddle. Anybody ran into this issue?

Just a thought, have you changed the spark plug wires?

    my thought exactly.

not sure your mileage, but this is often overlooked by POs. Fuel pump would be my next guess.

A friend of mine was having the same sort of problem, we changed the wires and plugs, air filter and fuel filter the problem went away not sure if it was one of the things we did or a combo of all of it that fixed it.

Thank you all, I am going to try and change the spark plugs this evening and see if that helps. If not then the fuel pump was next on the agenda.

    None.
I had the same issue with my 2000 3.4L V6. It was a bad mass air flow sensor. The truck felt like it was starving for air or gas when I punched the gas pedal or upon hard acceleration. I have read cleaning the mass air flow sensor sometimes helps.
