Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.

In MA they can't get away with that. They plug it into the inspection computer and if it has codes or has too many monitors not ready it fails. No override or anything possible. It won't print the ticket without a pass.

Due to MA's strict emissions, my truck has never legally been state inspected. I regret putting aftermarket cats in as the computer never reads them in "ready mode." I had a P0420 that went away with the new cats, but I guess these trucks are very picky in that department, and OEM is really the way to go. Well for now I'm happy to pay a $50 ticket rather than drop $1100 on OEM cats and "hope" that solves the issue as the aftermarket parts were close to $700. It's been 2 1/2 years now, and I've been stopped once and received a warning. I'll keep rolling the dice I think until I have an extra $1100 fall into my lap.

This is why the EPA is full of shit. Spend a ton of money to fix it their way or else. Aftermarket cats should be good enough, but not for the EPA

Closest thing we have to inspection here in Kentucky is having a sheriff's officer check your vin number and mileage when registering a used vehicle for a staggering fee of $5.

Have you tried a non-fouler to space out the downstream O2 sensor?

Where abouts in NH are you? If you shop around some other places might not give you such a hard time.

Vehicle inspections are about only extraneous/obvious gov't intrusion. Gun laws are almost non-existent; mandatory seatbelt law only applies to minors, etc.

Good luck with getting it passed

I have not. I understand what it does in theory, but since I'm not getting the CEL any more, I'm not sure it would work. Worth a try though I guess- it's a cheap enough mod.

I've had my truck registered at my folks' place in Idaho under my mom's name for the past three years. My dad was my insurance agent. California Highway Patrol sent my them a letter last month that required the truck to be registered in California if the 'Primary Driver' is a resident... I had to smog it, weight it, get it registered and change insurance agents.

Apparently CHP has a snitch program where people can report you if they think your vehicle isn't registered properly.

Only positive thing was I didn't have to pay any taxes because the title transfer was from a family member.

Anyone who actually believes bumper height laws are useful - has never followed a semi-trailer........... or seen what happens when a passenger vehicle (car or pickup) runs into one from behind. The requirement that a vehicle's bumper height must match - an exact copy of the same make and model vehicle is not common sense - nor competent engineering either one. Either they are all equal height - Tacomas, Porsches and Macks alike - or forget it.

Yeah - if a hundred people die unnecessarily, then fuck it - lets make it a couple thousand. Nice logic.

I would venture a guess that some of the inspection regulations were written in the forties or fifties and never changed

    None.
The EVAP drive cycle for a 2000 Tacoma 3.4L V6 did NOT have to be complete to pass a smog test. For 2000 and newer vehicles, a new smog rule was implemented (May 4, 2015) for California.

All gasoline engines (CNG, LNG, propane) from 2000 onward can have the EVAP portion of the smog test show as "not ready" or "not completed" and pass the smog test. I just verified this with my smog tech today. Here is a link (Page 2)

    https://www.bar.ca.gov/pdf/Smog_Check_OBD_Reference_Guide.pdf

The EVAP portion takes the longest to complete of the drive cycles by my reads and recent novice experiences. My smog tech said he would have passed my vehicle with the EVAP code as not being completed because "it takes the longest" was the techs quote.

Anyway, $3k later in smog parts and my truck passed the smog re-test today with flying colors. $1,100.00 for the front cat alone was a bitter pill to swallow but I got 230k miles before the cat took a dump.
