Ford also has some offerings lower than the Raptor that are nicely equipped. So does Chevy, and Dodge, and every manufacturer. The point of the Raptor, much like the pro, is to be above and beyond those common offerings. People like that stuff.

A base Camaro SS has some nice packages, but a Z28 or ZL1 is better.

A base Mustang 5.0 is nice, but a BOSS 350 is better.

A base Corvette is nice, but a Z06 is better.

I consider the TRD-Pro along those lines, but for a truck. High performance, better than stock, without requiring any wrenching.

People also like having something that is "exclusive" or limited in numbers. The "I don't want the TRD Sport, everyone has that. I want a TRD-Pro, I rarely see those." Its fun to have a special/rare car. One of the reasons I love my GTO is because I don't see them often. It makes the car more special to me than if I bought a Mustang and saw another one every 2 blocks.

I would prefer to buy it stick and ready to tackle most situations than risk thrashing up my SR5 in hopes that it'll preform better but looks terrible when it'll be riding on pavement 95% of its life with me

I think everyone is forgetting the major factor here, GOODYEAR WRANGLERS

I'll be glad I saved a few thousand and had my truck for a year when the first 2017 PRO poser mobile drives past me. I will be envious of that power sliding rear window, though...
That was an example of what Jeep is doing
    Boom, TRD OR

    Well if you want to:

"An all-new 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro is coming to redefine a proven off-road platform—and rule the roost. With a wider, higher stance, a heritage-inspired TOYOTA grille, and contrasting black details, this truck isn’t afraid to show off its wild side.

Backing up this attitude is the performance you would expect from Toyota Racing Development (TRD). We’re talking all-new FOX 2.5 Internal Bypass shocks tuned by TRD, Rigid Industries® LED fog lights, aluminum TRD front skid plate, Baja-inspired TRD alloy wheels wrapped with Kevlar®-reinforced Goodyear Wrangler® All-Terrain tires, and an available 6-speed automatic or manual transmission.

So whether you’re conquering the Alaskan wilderness, or just tackling your local trail, this pickup is ready to help you rule it all."

    Then, yes absolutely worth it.

The truth is lots of people want exactly this, and who can blame them. The problem is lots of people do not have the time or abilities to build this same truck from the TRD OR platform, so if they have the extra money to spend it is perfect for them. On the other hand if you are on a budget and have the ability to do some wrenching, then buying a TRD OR or even an SR5 and doing the work yourself can get you a better truck for less. Back to what I said earlier to the question of if this truck is nescessary: Yes for some.....No for some....

I don't have the tools, space or time to install coilovers and a lift on a truck so that's another reason I'm getting the Pro. Also don't want grease monkeys down at the local "offroad shop" crawling around my leather interior and scratching it up and joyriding it around the block if I took my truck somewhere to be modified. Don't want the creaks and squeaks of an aftermarket suspension and greatly diminished resale value as well. All these points have been hashed and rehashed over and over on the forums since the Pros announcement in February.

You have a good point there. I don't understand these people who are rushing out to sign up for the 2017 PRO considering all of the problems with the 2016. I see people are willing to pay MSRP without knowing the price of the truck. Nuts. Come November expect to see a lot of post on here pertaining to the disappointment with the PRO. I believe this pro truck is grossly overrated

Which is why i bought the SR. All those empty switch posts are where aftermarket shit will go. You can build a better truck than TRD OR with the price difference.

I wanted the heated seats. haha. They only came in the Off Road. Once you go heated, you never want to go back.

I wouldn't say it's over rated by Toyota.... All they say is, "it's taller, it's wider, and it's prettier."

That's all they are saying. Anything else is created by us

I think people assume more $$ = better. The TRD trucks must be so profitable for toyota & dealers. I remember they offered 3k off a TRD sport when i was negotiating but wouldnt budge 1k on an SR.

You don't even need an SR5.
A stock SR without BSM, 400W inverter, and climate controll is not an issue and you have $$$ to play with. Never use them anyway. Use the mirror, inverter only works with engine running, and just turn the vent off on the passenger side. More expense to fix in the long run.
You can add in what you need and do better. Add in a Pioneer AVH radio head which is superior, drop in led fogs, step rails, mud flaps and save $$$ and have better upgrades. As long as you have V6 4x4 and cool wheels I am on board.
The non functioning hood scoop I can live without, LOL.

I think it might be kind of like the Harley screaming eagle packages. They come all decked out from the factory. the fancy stuff is worked into the payments so you don't have to spend $3000 on accessories to get what you want it's just $50 extra a month. But when you trade it in you get more, banks don't add up the value of the mods you make to a truck but they dorecognize a premium model and will give you a loan for a used trd pro at retail price vs a decked out Sr5 model with $5000 in mods where they only will give you a loan for book value.

If you keep the truck for a long time it doesn't matter. You can get better quality for that $3000 dealer inflated options tacked on.
And if you sell to someone who knows what they are doing rather than trade in who most don't do anyway, aftermarket higher end parts means a lot more than plain old stock, you know that. You want the stock radio or a high end Pioneer or the generic one it comes with ? I will take the higher end Pioneer units, they are awesome. We could go on and on with lighting, suspension, lifts, etc etc etc.

Who trades in to a dealer anyway, LOL ?
If you have an awesome truck it will sell itself rather than a stock run of the mill.

Some people will buy it, mod it, and make it better.

A lot of people will get new wheels for sure. The wheels that ship with it look like ass.

Sure, but not everyone wants to modify a truck.

I didn't think about that. For me building/modifying is 90% of the fun. Good point. This is why discussions are nice.
