    Hey all,

The original suspension on my Tacoma has seen better days and I'm finally ready to replace it. I was wondering what the best suspension would be that would provide roughly a 3 inch lift would be for around or under $1500. I've purchased FJ Cruiser 16 inch TRD rims and would like to run 33x10.5x16 or whatever the metric equivalent is. Going to go with the BFG Mud Terrain KM2.

Are there any suspension out there that would allow me to run this tire without having to cut or shave anything off the body? I've read the pinch weld might be a problem. Would the narrower tire eliminate that?

    Thanks!

    OME and worth every penny.
Go to Forums....Find Suspension....read Sticky of FAQ.
Your budget is pretty good and really, most kits match up pretty close.
    Tire will be a 285/85/16.
Look up threads for the sizes mentioned also. I think you're pretty golden going that route as far as ease and cost.

Read up on driveline vibrations after lifting. They can be maddening. But yeah, that budget will get you a good lift.

finally somebody with a realistic budget. That pinch weld is gona need some lovin with or without a lift.

you can get yourself a solid suspension setup here for around or under your $1500 mark.

not sure why only options are extended travel ones. youl have to ask for standard length unless your going with a uca which you kinda should at 3"

I think you may be ok with that tire and wheel setup then but if you went any wider you would have rubbing on the frame and upper control arms. I too wanted a set of those wheels but I wanted a wider tire so I went with SCS and im very happy with them

A "33" is always going to require some massaging of the pinch weld area. Always. A wide 33 or a narrow 33 on a wheel with less or more BS. Too much BS will add other rubbing issues, either frame or upper ball joint.

Oh and I meant a 255 wide tire for a stock rim, you'll have to stay real skinny or wider wheels and/or spacers.
read/ see pics. of 255's it's not a popular look but is that tall.

So I've been thinking about it more and it seems like I can avoid cutting if I go with 32's so I'm thinking that's what I'll do. Right now the Old Man Emu from this site http://www.rocky-road.com/old-man-emu-tacoma.html sounds good with 32 inch km2's. Seems like a good setup to me. What do you all think?

You need to trim with 32s to. My 32-11.5s with 4.5 backspacing rubbed pinch weld even after trimming, uca, front and rear of frame

I didn't trim anything. If I hit some hard bumps and turn I'm sure it would rub on the pinch weld, but it has never happened.

One think you need to remember about bolt on suspension lifts:
YOU ARE NOT CHANGING THE STOCK SUSPENSION GEOMETRY (yes I know there are exceptions.) All you are doing is pushing the wheel/tire further down (lifting the truck) at ride height. The suspension still cycles through the same exact motion. So any tire size you can fit with a lift will fit stock. With that said, wheels play a big part in pushing the tires out farther away from the frame and pinch weld.

Thank you for this! This truck looks great! Glad I got those rims. I have a buddy helping me put together a suspension. He's done 3 Tacomas 2 gen 1's and a gen 2 and uses a combo of Bilstein, Icon and OME parts. Cost will go over 1500, but not by much. I finally have the funds to pull the trigger as I was laid off and received a nice severance, so it'll be done in the next month or so. I'm also going with the Shrockworks front bumper :)

Hey all. It's done! Installed the suspension yesterday. Took me 10 hours for everything including diff drop kit, pinch weld smash and exhaust drop. Tires, wheels and alignment today. It turned out great I think. All my previous problems are gone! Rubs a little on the UCA but I can live with that.

Thanks for the help everyone! :)
