It's a nice place. Would make a pretty good basecamp. Lots and lots of at-large camping around here, and the county is packed with restaurants, brewers, distillers, even a winery (good one). There's a pretty good art district here too. Crested Butte is 90 minutes, Indy Pass to Aspen a little over an hour (but skip that shit, already done!).

    Next time.

Ha, I didn't take it as such (sorry if it didn't come out that way), and I pretty much agreed with all of your suggestions. I was just sorta poking fun at how polarizing springs can be, people from CO either seem to love it or hate it. The Garden is worth seeing once, but after that, there's other places to go. I view the Garden like "Old Faithful" in Yellowstone. It's worth seeing for the sake of it, but I'm not planning my next trip to Wyoming around it.

I love springs, but it's a city. In my free time, I'm heading out of the city and into the mountains like everybody else. (sorry for the hjack OP )

Note: and Colorado Tom is right, Salida to Crested Butte is one of my favorite trips. It should be on your bucket list for next time.

I have made the trip from just above Boone,NC to Colorado Springs a few times. Just be careful on 70 through Kansas, been stopped twice for 6mph over. It is a beautiful trip though. I drove straight through (for work) and it took me 21 hours from my area.

If you have time, go up Pike's Peak and check out Garden of the Gods in the Colorado Springs area.
