Installed a few things this weekend

I had some time to install a few things:

I don't have specific pictures of the tonneau or arm rest organizer, but there really isn't anything different about how I installed them. I really like the tonneau and the arm rest organizer is just amazing. It's much easier to keep things organized in the arm rest now and makes the space feel like it's larger than it really is.

I really like the bed mat. I moved a friend earlier today out of his apartment and I was very happy with how "sticky" the bed mat was. Everything stayed put, nothing slid around in the bed. I highly recommend it.

Below are pictures of the first aid kits. The passenger kit is just a Maxpedition pouch that I've loaded with band-aids, gauze, tape, antiseptic and some travel packs of Tylenol and Advil. The purpose is something quick that we can grab and take with us when we go to a park or playground. The driver side kit is a larger one for longer trips and to just generally be available with a lot of different things.




The rest of my post is focused around the bed light kit. This kit is from MattGecko and is a very well put together kit. I did take a different approach in a couple spots in the installation that I thought were picture and post worthy.

I mounted the lights according to the instructions. After mounting the lights, I didn't want to drill a hole in the bed so I started looking around for an alternate path for the wire. I found this pass-through under the bed rail cap to use instead:


Rather than work underneath the truck, I removed the inverter outlet/storage compartment panel and was easily able to work with the wire from the comfort of the bed. The only reason I had to work from underneath was to run/mount the wire along the truck underside to the cab and to fasten the ground lug with the supplied self-tap screw:


I used some black wire loom to make the install look more OEM and protect the wire from various road debris. You can see my black wire loom next to the factory grey loom and me holding the ground wire. This is taken from sitting on the bed and facing the tailgate with my back to the cab:


Behind the area where the panel mounts, if you follow the grey wire loom you'll see it go into the chassis here. It drops inside here into a channel that exits lower in the side of the truck body. The reason I used this path is that it follows the factory wiring going to that inverter outlet in the bed which gives it an OEM look and a safe path for the wiring to follow:


Here is a view of the factory grey loom and my added black loom with the bed light wires. This is looking up from the ground. The top is where the wires come from the power outlet/storage panel in the bed. The lower is where the wire begins to cross behind the spare tire and turns toward the cab:


Rather than run entirely under the truck, I ran it partially inside. Under the double cab rear foot area on drivers side is a grommet. I cut a "plus" in the grommet and passed the wires through. There wasn't a large enough channel to pass the entire loom through so I ran the wires unprotected through the wire channel on the driver side towards the cab:

Definitely A+ for the LED kit. I'm a fan and I highly recommend them for anyone looking to light the bed.
