    Try greasing the slip yoke?
My lifted prerunner makes a similar noise as well. If you drive your truck around for 3-4 miles the noisy part would probably heat up faster than something that was well lubricated and not grinding. The front ujoint on mine gets pretty hot after 30mins of driving even when it's freshly greased.

alright I just purchased an 03 rc 2.7 4x4 bone stock and have been wanting to put a set of 265 75 16's on it. was curious as to how those sit in the well bone stock with no lift or level. Other question if i was to add a set of bilsteins to the front at 1.25 and block the rear 1-1.5" it wouldnt "Sky" over my tires (265 75 26) or anything like that correct? Just wanting to see or hear from some rc guys experiences on here. From what im measuring my truck sits level as it is so if i did the billies at 1.25 front to get the tire out of the well id have to block or aal in the back and im really not wanting to lift it if i dont have to just wanting a slightly bigger, agressive/capable tire. thanks guys

Here's my junk... per your specs
    DSC06185.jpg

Front Billies set at 1.5 or whatever it is (I forget) and single Wheeler's 1.5" AAL in back w/5100's also. It's a good street-able combo. Ditched the sway-bar so it's nice'n flexy. Any larger tire would demand regear IMHO ...it's doggy enough as is. Good luck deciding.

sharp lookin rig T ross! did you put the tire on before the billies? howd it look then or are they a must? now my concern is the vibration in the rear after the 1.5 aal is installed apparently these last couple posts are not alone. theres a lot of chatter about people having to shim the axle n such matching angles to get rid of that vibration. im just not trying to take two steps forward and three steps back.

Mine does the same thing.. it's the slip yolk. Chock the tires, put it in neutral, make sure there is no load on the drive line and push up on the splined section of the drive shaft. Mine had a "bit" of play. These trucks are very sensitive to lift (though I read where some stock trucks make the same noise). I've gotta get around to adding a CV or building a new slightly longer and tighter one. Toyota cheese I tell ya...lol

Thanks! No I actually bought the truck with (and this is stupid) a spacer lift on the front only, nothing on the back (serious Dezert lean). So, I added the AAL's (don't do blocks btw) to get it level. I didn't like the idea of busting off my struts because of the spacers so I ditched them and went Bilsteins all the way. Also added Wheeler's super bumps up front. It's an economical and effective set up IMO. Again, these things are sensitive to lift, I also did the East Coast Gear needle bearing/bushing replacement in the front diff to kill the "drone" noise. Once you start down the rabbit hole...lol

Sup new Single Cab fam

Just hopped back on the Taco train after a 1 year hiatus. Some of you knew me as "RebelTaco". Here's my new project! Aka "Taquito"

I got it for a smokin' deal, about $6000. 127k 6 lug 5 speed Prerunner.

Total Chaos +3.5" LT, 8" coilovers, Giant "Link Killer" SUA rear kit with 16" Triple bypass shocks, Glassworks fiberglass, bolt in bed cage, 285/75/16 Coopers (brand new), Moto Metal 16's (hate them, already sold), Doug Thorley header, cat delete, Flowmaster 40 series, K&N intake, Pioneer double din, 10" sub and amp behind pass. seat. It's no DCSB 4x4, but I think I made out pretty nice.

Goal is to swap out the FOA shocks for Kings, already have the rears, just need coilovers. Build new tube bumpers, front and rear. Mount new 315/70/17 tires and wheels, paint the fiberglass, regear to 4.88's, build a new bedcage with some more utility, and reinstall cats (per CA smog). Possibly skid plates and a locker down the line.

oh no what is this "drone" noise you speak of. biggest tire you can run stock is 265 75 16 without rubbing and such from what ive read. problem is i dont want that tire to just eat up the well. i dont particularly care for that look. in turn what i dont want is or am trying to avoid (tho i kno how it goes) is this snowball affect of things that need done just to lift it 1.25". why are these damn rcs so picky

The CV will cure your issue.

I originally did the spacer lift years ago. The coil springs went away rather quick. I went with the ICON's in front & back with the AAL when I replaced the spacer stuff. The AAL broke at the sand dam on the whoops as well as breaking the entire spring pack on the driver side. Went with a Deaver 8 pack and all is well, still have those springs today.

Makes me wonder why Toyota eliminated the CV.

Yeah well when you lift; the front axle cv's change angle which loads the needle bearings enough that you can hear and feel them. At least I could and it drove me crazy. There is a 100 mile long thread about it. I'll see if I can find it again.. IDK why these trucks are so tickey but they are so be prepared to deal with it. Good luck and may the force be with you.
