after a few months ownership i finally decided to add presets as i normally use a memory stick and XM... for the record, the AM reception is shit. won't catch the local traffic or talk radio.

anyone else have issues with AM reception? non JBL unit.

when i saw the post I thought the same. I guess I do see the occasional AM station posting for emergencies along the highway so there is probably some use for it.

I've never had a radio, in car or otherwise, that got clear AM reception. EVER.

OP, I'll say that AM is useful for minor sport events not carried on FM. And I remember my dad listening to Savage on AM when I was younger.

It depends where you live. Here in SoCal the reception is decent. The majority of the time I'm using am would be if I didn't have a strong enough signal to stream the audio. I'll use am for sports but I can usually just use an app instead. The audio isn't crystal clear but it's am. You kind of know what you're getting. Depending on where you are I would download tuneinradio. You can add your local station as long as they offer streaming.

I listen to AM station all the time. I'm a huge sports talk radio fan. I live in central California and I get all the local and bay area stations very clear.

Yeah, mine isn't quite as good as it was in the Tundra with it's huge ol' antenna flapping in the wind. I'm thinking that's probably part of it. I use it once in a blue moon during the summer storm/tornado season because there's a station that will air and keep updating the weather in real time. Easier and safer than using an app on your phone while driving.

I just think the stubby shark fin isn't quite as good as the 31" beast I used to have. However it does get GPS and XM now.

And that's not to say I don't get it, just not quite as clear or as far away is all.

The only reason I would ever have to tune in AM is to hear Pags/Phil because they turned the FM station into a Bible thumper station.

AM reception in mine is fine. Use it all the time, seems to pick up the same stations I found in previous vehicles. Around me, a couple of the bigger AM stations also broadcast on one of the companion "HD" FM channels. Check around some of those HD channels, you may find what you are looking for there. To be honest, I prefer the AM versions though!

Since all the jokes I was going to make have been taken, i'll just say I haven't checked the AM on my truck.
