Center Console in 99

Well I have a seat that can fit two people in my 99 SR5 Prerruner with a flipdown arm rest. I was wondering is there a way to take that seat out, get a new seat and install a center console. I think it would look great!

 

You have what is called the 60/40 bench seat. And yes you can switch that seat out for any 1st Gen bucket seat and also install any 1st Gen center console that will be plug and play.

 

Awesome! Do they make bucket seats in the like bluish grey color? and center consoles?

 

Yes 1st gens came in two color ways. Tan and bluish grey. You just need to find someone selling the bucket seats and console.

 

also, you have the 60/40 so that means the passenger side is a full stand alone bucket seat already, so you don't need that one unless its the wrong color so all you need to shop for is the drivers side which is the rarest and hardest to find but you can buy a messed up one for the seat frame and tracks and then swap the backrest and seat parts of it using a passenger side seat from some ones unwanted 60/40 bench seat.

if need be you can swap the seat and back from any 3rd gen 4runner as well if you already have the frame rails for taco buckets or they can be modified to work fairly easily buy swapping the front door side feet from your old 60/40 seats. search and you will see posts showing how to do it.

 

So keakar, I could buy a messed up drivers side seat then a passenger one and use the passenger side parts and put it on the driver side rails?

 

I found a perfectly good passenger seat that matches. The driver seat a huge hole so what could I do with this opportunity?

 

yep, the bottom cushions will swap right over with one exception, one seat side has cloth like material and the other vinyl so only you can tell its not on the right side because you know about it, other then that they are identical.

the seat backs have latches so they are side specific but you can swap the covers and cushions over so that just takes a little extra work. the seat cover comes off by a simple slot connection so push together and twist to open then connection. the bottom seats have 4 bolts, 2 on each side under the plastic covers and it comes right off.

just remember to be sure you have matching headrests too, they are easy to overlook while your main concern its the seats themselves
