I was looking to score a cheap used CV axle from a totaled truck as a trail spare instead of buying a brand new OEM one for over $300. I managed to secure this one for $80. The boots, threads, and axle itself look fine. However, the gasket (correct term?) is bent. Can I just hammer/pry that back into place or should I send the axle in to get repaired somewhere? Attached are pictures.

That axle shield and seal are pretty messed up! Looks like someone was unhappy with it! lol. That is the end that goes into the spindle, so you need to be sure that everything seals correctly so that the wheel bearings do not get contaminated. This can be fixed, but will take some time. Using a pair of small needle nosed pliers you can carefully work the metal dust shield back into shape more resembling the rest of the dust shield. When you do that the rubber part of the seal should conform back to it's original position.

or you can use a flat head screw driver and pound it out and replace just that cover.
