This is my first Tacoma, I am curious what people are using the 120 Volt (400 Watt) Cargo Bed AC Power Outlet for. I was camping and tried plugging in a coffee maker, with no success because it draws way to many Watts. Tried charging my phone also while camping but the truck has to be running or at least the battery on.
    Is anyone finding it useful???

Our mailbox got ran over a few weeks ago.. rather then running a billion feet of extension cord to the street I did all the sawsall work right on the tailgate of the truck. cut two 4x4 posts with it.

Has been the one and only thing ive used it for.

I think it would charge the phone just fine with accessory on... id think it would run the coffee pot also.. hmm.

Coffee maker, that would depend. The one we have in our kitchen consumes 900 watts.

i use it for Milwaukee battery chargers on jobsites, my Nintendo 3DS at the beach, and lately a small 1/4 watt guitar amp for testing Craigslist acquisitions.

This is an often unconsidered but hugely useful reason I like having it, both buying and selling on CL.

saved me from getting burned twice so far. once on a 2x15 bass cab that was DOA, and another on a head that had a blown output transformer. ended up buying both, but saved hundreds! the cab was just faulty wiring, ten minutes with a screwdriver, and the head was a 150$ repair.

I ran an 80 watt Hakko fx888 soldering iron station to fix some lights on my scaler at Deadman Hills where there is no power or hookups

Until I wire in my second battery I have been using it for my fridge. The fridge is 110 priority and then will switch to 12v. So when driving, the truck runs the fridge and when I stop it switches to the deep cycle battery I have mounted in front of the fridge. I can get 3 days out of just the battery with no 110 assistance from the truck.

I don't have a 3rd Gen but I use mine for a little (1.2cf?) Mini fridge when camping. I stock it with food the day before I leave for camp. Get everything all loaded leaving a spot to set the fridge, I start the truck, load the fridge, plug it in and drive away. Works great for me, once I get to camp, I just swap it over to camp site power.

I typically use it to run a mini fridge for camping. Keeps your beer cold till you get to your site. No need to worry about ice or anything else.

It is simple as I haven't finished it yet. I built my fridge slide and made the rails another foot or so longer than they needed to be. I have a AGM group 30 deep cycle battery in a battery box that gets strapped down to the rails. I run power and ground from the battery right to the fridge with an inline fuse holder. With my fridge I am able to plug in the 12v and the 110v connections at the same time. I can take some pics tonight if needed.

I found the AC power outlet useless for the reasons you stated, so I use this:

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Schumache...29953&wl11=online&wl12=24200840&wl13=&veh=sem

    And this:

    http://www.sears.com/diehard-425-wa...gclid=CJnChcKzj84CFQkfhgodT1wNLA&gclsrc=aw.ds

    I carry '50 cord extension.
Moreover, I've used it when the line power goes out during severe weather, and it lasts a long time. I run a small "15 led tv, charge cells, run laptop etc. It's saved my butt numerous times.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!
