So, I've always custom built my own suspension on every thing I've owned, but this time I'm going easy on the '16 I just bought. I need to get the collapsed and extended lengths on the extended icons and fox 2.5 coilovers. King was good enough to put those numbers up on their website, but not the other two guys.

    Anybody have this info?

I've been reading around, and it sounds like the Kings don't extend enough to get the extra 1" of travel?

    Update:

King: 21.687 ext and 16.75 com. 4.937" of travel.
King Extended: 22.625 ext and 16.75 com. 5.875” of travel
Fox: 22.48 ext and 17.59 com. 4.89" of travel.
Fox 2.0 22.225 ext and 17.6 com 4.625 of travel
Icon:22.574 ext and 17.42 com. 5.154" of travel
ADS: 22.250 ext and 17.75 com. 4.5" of travel
    ARB BP51 :21.67 ext 17.32 col 4.35” of travel

Call them. King, Fox, and Icon are all within an inch of each other for droop, 22.5 to 23.5 (king is longest) I only asked about extended not compressed lenght.

Roger that, 1" at the mounting point is big #'s at the spindle. Trying to see if the +2 "long travel " is worth it. That's 11 inches, and if I can get 10" without having to do axles, that's worth it

I believe that will uni-ball UCAs you can get the full benefit of extended travel shocks with out going to a long travel front set up.

Yea, I'm trying to what company's shock fits best and in what travel range.
So far I have King at 21.687 ext and 16.75, which is 4.937" of travel. Fox is 22.48 and 17.59, which is 4.89" of travel.

So far king takes the award for shock travel, but it will top out sooner, which will negate the full benefit of upper arms.

I'd rather have more droop than stuff, seeing as how I'm trying to cram a larger tire in the same size wheel well. So for that reason, Fox is a better shock, theoretically....

Now to get some #'s from icon!

    OK, Front Coil over #'s:

King: 21.687 ext and 16.75 com. 4.937" of travel.
Fox: 22.48 ext and 17.59 com. 4.89" of travel.
Icon:22.574 ext and 17.42 com. 5.154" of travel

Well. More travel and more droop is more better for me! Hope these #'s help some folks for now, I'll post up the real test of the numbers when I can get the shocks on my truck and cycle the front suspension and see where the shock bottoms out vs bump stop placement. Trying to eek out as much quality travel as possible.

Anything 21.5"-21.90" extended you are good.

Shock stroke should be no more than 6.5" max. The most stock pulls is 5.5" of shock stroke travel, the most you should be getting out of a stock setup is 9.7" through 10.5" max suspension travel.

    21.90"- 6.5= 15.4 " collapsed

Shock compressed length should equal no more than 15.4" collapsed, but you should be somewhere 15.4" through 16" collapsed. Ideally to get the most travel out of your setup given you will be running uniball arms.

What kind of brand are you swinging towards, King?

I have made a little tutorial on how to build your own shocks on Here, as has @blackhawke88 it's relatively easy. Get your valving dialed in while you are doing it if you know what kind of wheeling you'll be doing and whats needed to get it right.

Sorry, I totally misread it. You want to buy premade ones. Honestly the best way to go on these trucks are to make your own so you can make the most out of your suspension setup. If you want to buy premade ones be aware that you will be paying more for prebuilt ones over the ones you make. Just some stuff to think about.

Check out the company Radflo. They make great coilovers as well. Check out Sway-A-way too, that's who I use but mine are custom so the lengths will vary from their premade stuff.

Are those ICON figures for the standard or extended travel coilovers?

Here they are... I called King and confirmed they're real... Talked to Josh at Wheeler's and he confirmed they should be arriving to their location next week. I'm ordering mine this week from them.

Just placed my order with Wheeler's Off Road, awesome customer service.

They said they're expecting shipment next week... I called around the local King vendors in So Cal, they were all scratching their heads... 4WheelParts said it was special order with 4-5 weeks lead time.

I got the standard spring rate... if I remember what the dude at King said it's 650lb when I called.

He recommended that I get the standard spring, he feared the ride would be too stiff if I got 700lb. (he said he'd only do that if I had a steel bumper with a winch). I explained to him that the 16's are heavier in the front compared to the Gen2 Tacomas, he said King hasn't tested/approved anything officially with the Gen3's, but he recommends still going with the standard spring.

He also reassured me that you can always preload the coilovers to achieve the ride height you want... the only reason to go 700lb is to accommodate a heavier bumper. Worst case scenario the ride is too soft and you replace the springs.

Since it looks like you have a Gen2 Tacoma, I would definitely get standard springs unless you have a beefy bumper.

I'll post pics and my review of the softness/quality of the ride... I've been hitting every speed bump pretty quick with the stock setup now to get a good before/after pulse. lol.

So if I'm reading this all correctly, the Kings extended are the best option. The most travel, and the shortest compressed length as well.

Any of the major 3 uca's be fine? LR, CHAOS, or CAMBURG.

Would there be any advantage to aftermarket LCA's?

Sounds like not much point going with the +2" kit...

    This is intriguing!

    Am I right?
