I wanted get everyone's input some movement in my steering rack. I don't know much about steering rack designs. I recently was chasing down a steering pull that my 1 gen tacoma had at higher speeds. This steering rack is a rebuilt replacement that I put in in trying to fix the issue. It did not fix the issue. After replacing some other things and getting an alignment done the truck doesn't pull like it used to. It used to be a sudden pull left or right without the steering wheel moving, now the the steering seems loose/wanders at speeds 55+ here and there. I for some reason still suspect the steering rack (possibly a bad replacement being a rebuild). When I took it in to a mechanic shop to have in aligned I showed them a video of me moving my the wheels while the truck was jacked up left and right. The steering rack rod (had the boot pulled back) would move almost a half an inch. They told me that was normal. Well this last weekend I put some new parts on and during it both TREs were disconnected. I was curious and pulled the boot back and grabbed one of the tire rods and started to see what type of play was actually in the steering rack. It had way more play up and down and twisting than I would think to be normal. But then again I'm not an engineer or mechanic so I don't know it could be completely normal. In the video you can't see the other side but the Tie rod is moving just the same. What do you guys think? Is this normal?
