Has anyone used their tent in winter/snowy conditions? Im looking at a few different companies, and and wondering how they did in colder conditions. My tent will be used quite alot in the winter months in the mountains. Any input is appreciated.

    Thanks

I'm waiting for mine to be delivered but I ordered a Tepui kukenam ruggadized. I feel the heavier material will enhance thermal retention. They also offer a weather hood that covers the entire tent to increase its overall retention capabilities.

Being up here in the interior of Alaska, one thing I can say is that your biggest thing is ensuring you get something that is not any bigger than you need it to be if heat retention is your biggest concern. More space, more air to warm up, more surface area for heat to dissipate from. If it's just going to be you and maybe another person, something the size of the Tepui Ayer might be good for you. Also remember that you can leave your sleeping gear inside so upgrading to a heavier bag for the sake of comfort isn't unreasonable.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'm looking at the ruggadized Autana. Having a covered enterance/gear storage/dog sleeping area that is accessable without getting outside is important to us. Also, there are two adults now, family in the future, so i think the size is right.

the mt. shasta extended summit series is on my short list too. It'll depend on whats available when I order. Besides going from one website to another to compare, has anyone seen a side by side comparison between the ruggedized and summit series?

    image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg It has finally arrived!
Could not be happier with the tent on all aspects of comfort, quality, ease of set up, and I'm massively pleased with the color. Best color on the market IMHO.
Shout out to @Hunter.V.White for the help with install!

All Pro bed bars? I went with three to mount my ARB and it was probably a bit of overkill. They are about the perfect height though to keep the tent below the roofline and still have usable space in the bed.

I've used my standard CVT Mt. Shasta on a few cold trips and had no issues with it. we set up a Mr. Heater Portable Buddy propane heater in the annex which kept us warm through the night. there was a bit of condensation on the inside of the walls, but was well worth the tradeoff.

For reference, it snowed close to 2 ft on us the night of the picture and we didn't have any issues with the tents holding up. Our makeshift tarp awning was another story...

Yes sir! They really are the perfect height. I might have gone three if shipping them to Alaska didn't cost almost as much as the bars.. ($150 for 2, $109 to get them to me...) Mpre than made up for that expense with the deal I got on the tent though. Paid ~$1,295 with free shipping. Managed to line up the order with REI member sale (20% off $1,650 made the deal unpassable) and then free shipping via ship to my local REI store. Only major downside is I waited almost 2 months for it (the July 30th would have been two months). Tepui quoted me ~$460 to ship to AK and I can't fault them at all, geographically I may as well live in another damn country. All in all, I got exactly what I wanted for ~$800 less than any other venue or method. Just cost me some patience... a metric shit ton of patience...

sweet, good to know that the standard tents hold up that well with so much snow.

I have had a tepui and an eezi awn. Used them both in rain and snow. The tepui is a good tent but the Eezi Awn was far superior in cold weather. The canvas is heavy on the eezi awn and the PVC type material on the fly is more repellent than the coated ripstop on the tepui.

The eezi awn is definitely more money though but I would consider it for 4 season camping. To be fair my tepui was the standard model not the ruggedized. The ruggedized versions seem to be closer in fabric densities to the Eezi awn so they may perform equally. @Box Rocket has seen both up close and could give you a good idea.

Yeah, shipping was stupid to get the All Pro bars up here, $140ish I think. I tried ordering a tent through REI and they said they wouldn't do it. I wanted to get that through the member sale as well. Ended up at $1450 shipped for the ARB as the next cheapest option that had the overhanging entrance.

Really?! I live in Fairbanks too and they didn't have an issue doing the free shipping to the store during the member sale for me. Maybe because I ordered it online? Also if it wasn't able to be back ordered that might have been a reason too? During the sale, they stopped letting people backorder them, I mean it took them almost 2 months to get me mine. That might have been the case?
